Nathan Aspinall has become renowned for his walk-on song, but admits he "f****** hates" the iconic tune, which always gets the crowd going.

The 32-year-old, who is currently ranked fourth in the world rankings, opted to change his song in 2019 and went for for 'Mr Brightside' by The Killers - which remains a party favourite in the UK. Aspinall was looking for a change after a World Championship defeat to Michael van Gerwen.

He admits to being inspired when he was out on New Year's Eve with the reaction to The Killers' classic sticking with him. Aspinall continues to get the crowd going when his walk-on song drops, but admits he's hate enough of the tune, even though he's going to stick by it.

Aspinall told Planet Sport : "When I play in other countries, I get a lot of support purely down to the walk on song. If they like the walk on song, they like the player. It’s amazing.

"But with the greatest of respect, I absolutely f****** hate the song. I used to love it but now, everywhere I go, they put it on. But the fans love, so long may it continue.”

Last year's World Matchplay champion admits that roar from the crowd does get him going, which doesn't always help him in the early stages of matches. As a result he's tried to think of ways to calm himself down, but won't be tweaking his song.

He said: “What that does, your adrenaline levels are so high that it takes me a couple of minutes to come down. A lot of the time I might lose the first one or two legs. It’s something I’m working on to be fair in the new year.

"Trying to think of new tactics to try and clam myself down before throwing. It’s amazing, I would never change it. But it does have an effect on my game."

Aspinall's focus is now on the Premier League and he was beaten in the last eight by Gerwyn Price in Cardiff last week. This week he'll face Van Gerwen in Berlin but has hit out and those targeting him and his family on social media.

He admitted: "It's hard. Everyone always says that darts players are the most accessible on social media and some of the abuse I'm getting is disgusting. People forget that we are human beings, we're not just dart players and yeah I'm going through a rough patch.

"I'm the first man to admit that I'm struggling at the moment and I'm in the hardest possible tournament in our sport when you're struggling (Premier League). But I still turn up every week, I still try my best. Give the guys a break, it's bloody hard this game."
