Kyle Walker reportedly threatened to ‘knock out’ Neal Maupay, with a lip reader claiming that the Brentford striker mentioned the Manchester City star's children during the feisty clash on Monday night.

Manchester City defender Walker and Brentford forward Maupay were involved in an angry clash during the reigning Premier League champions’ 3-1 victory in West London. Manager Pep Guardiola was forced to intervene to cool tensions.

It has not yet been revealed what triggered the tense showdown between the pair but a lip reader has taken a closer look at the incident. Speaking to Mail Online, expert lip reader Jeremy Freeman has given his account of the incident - and claimed that Walker even said to fourth official Stuart Attwell: “I'm gonna knock him [Maupay] out.”

It is claimed that Attwell did not have too much of a response and simply batted away Walker’s claims by saying: “Shush”. However, Walker did not back down and said, as claimed by the lip reader, “wait there” before pointing to the tunnel and walking back over to referee Jarred Gillet.

The City star then revealed exactly what Maupay had said. According to Freeman, Walker claimed: “Ref he spoke about my kids, he spoke about my kids, not once, but twice."

Maupay apparently replied: “I didn't, it's OK.” Gillet then attempted to move on and instructed the pair: “Let's deal with it at the end” and he then turned to the Brentford striker and added: “Now, now, just calm down, listen to me... think about it, think about it.”

The showdown was rounded off with Maupay appearing to say: “That's a lie, that's not fair, I promise you now.” Tensions were eventually calmed and neither player will face further action for the clash with it not being reported to the FA.

It is the second row that Maupay has got involved in over recent weeks after his spat with Tottenham ’s James Maddison. Pep Guardiola was probed about Walker’s showdown with Maupay but snapped back at reporters and remained tight-lipped.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, he said: “Nothing, next question!” When asked if the officials were conducting a further investigation, Guardiola remained unmoved as he replied: “I said next question”.

Thomas Frank also refused to discuss the incident. Asked about Walker and Maupay’s clash, he replied: “No, I saw they were talking to each other. It's not my first focus after a game that we lost.”

Walker opened up on his family life recently. He split with long-term partner Annie Kilner last month after he was named as the father of Lauryn Goodman’s young daughter. He had already fathered a three-year-old son with the latter following a prior split with Kilner in 2020.
