Former Neighbours star Holly Valance heaped praise on Liz Truss, Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg and Lee Anderson in a surprise appearance at the launch of a new Tory faction.

The Australian actress and singer, married to billionaire donor Nick Candy, praised the former PM after listening to her speech at the launch of the Popular Conservatism group. She also quipped that Sir Jacob should be the next Prime Minister and voiced her appreciation for loudmouth Mr Anderson.

Ms Valance, 40, told GB News: "Everyone starts off as a leftie and then wakes up at some point after you start making money, working, trying to run a business, trying to buy a home and then realise what c*** ideas they all are. And then you go to the right."

She went on: "I thought Liz was really really interesting to listen to, Jacob for PM, the MP for Ashfield (Lee Anderson) was awesome, love a northerner, straight to the point and very sensible."

The Kiss Kiss star watched from the front row as Ms Truss accused her Tory colleagues of being more interested in jobs after Parliament than doing the right thing.

At the same event former Tory deputy chairman Mr Anderson said that only "the odd weirdo" raises green issues on the doorstep. Ms Valance was pictured wearing sunglasses as she walked into the Westminster venue with Mr Candy.

The 40-year-old married the businessman in 2012, in a £3million ceremony in Beverly Hills. Mr Candy is a well known figure in the right-wing political circuit. In 2022 Nigel Farage shared a picture of him and Ms Valance having dinner with the former UKIP leader and Donald Trump. And Mr Candy was among the revellers pictured at a lockdown-breaking bash at the HQ of former Mayoral candidate Shaun Bailey in December 2020.

Ms Valance starred in Neighbours between 1999 and 2002, when she left to concentrate on her music career. She hit number 1 in the chart with Kiss Kiss, while follow-up Down Boy reached number 2. She went on to star in a number of shows and films from Prison Break, and CSI: Miami to Taken.

In 2011 she also took part in Strictly Come Dancing, reaching the semi-final. She was in the audience as Ms Truss claimed environmentalists and LGBTQ rights campaigners are repackaged Communists. Mr Farage also watched on as Tory rising star Mhairi Fraser, who recently described Donald Trump as "incredibly refreshing", lashed out at Rishi Sunak's proposed smoking ban.

Ms Truss's latest intervention comes despite a new poll showing she is the least popular major politician in the UK. Ranting about "wokeism", she told the audience: "Too many of our colleagues are looking at what jobs they get when they leave Parliament, they want to be popular at London dinner parties." She continued: "I never get invited to these parties."

In a tirade about environmental and LGBT+ campaigners, the former PM said: "Conservatives have not taken on the left wing extremists. Now these people have repackaged themselves. They won't admit they're socialists or Communists anymore. They say they're environmentalists."

She went on to include those "in favour of supporting LGBT people or groups of ethnic minorities" in this category. Ms Truss whined that decisions are made by "unaccountable" officials, while MPs can be booted out. "I myself have been at the sharp end of that, I can tell you we're accountable," she said.

She accused fellow Conservatives of trying to "appease the people", moaning: "Conservative cabinet ministers have met Greta Thunberg and asked her what she wanted. We have a Conservative Government legislating for self identification."

And Ms Truss, who was ousted by her own party after her disastrous mini-budget, went on: "It's difficult being a Conservative at the moment, it's difficult to advocate for these policies."
