A rapper wants all XL Bullies to be "wiped out" after two of his dogs mauled his mother-in-law to death, it has been reported.

Grandmother Esther Martin was looking after his 11-year-old son when Ashley Warren's dogs Bear and Beauty fatally attacked the 68-year-old. Her grandson saw her being mauled to death by the two dogs, which the victim’s family say were XL Bullies.

Neighbours rushed to help but Esther, 68, died at the scene in Jaywick, Essex. The dogs’ owner was named locally as Esther’s son-in-law Ashley Warren, a rap artist calling himself Wyless Man. In November, he posted an ad selling XL Bully puppies at £500 each. Since Esther's tragic death, the rapper now says XL Bullies should be "wiped out" as he supports the new ban on the breed.

It's now a crime in England and Wales to own an XL Bully after new laws came into force. While Ashley, whose rapper name is Wyless Man, was previously defiant about the new laws, now he "couldn't support them enough," adding that one of the dogs adored Esther and was used to being petted by her.

The rapper, who was arrested and bailed on suspicion of dangerous dog offences, told The Sun: “Never in a million years did I see them as a risk. If my dogs did that to her, when I had never seen anything but love from them, then that breed just has a killer switch.

“I honestly thought the ban was a stupid government plan to wipe out a breed which I had never seen anything but softness and love from. Now I think they need to be wiped out. Esther meant everything to my son and she meant everything to me. I’m sorry for everyone’s loss, from the bottom of my heart."

Speaking to the BBC, one of Esther's daughters, Sonia Martin, 47, has said that the dogs were kept "penned in a small chalet" She added: "How the hell can that be any good for an animal? We're very angry. People complain [about] the dogs; it's not the dogs."

In an update earlier today, Acting Detective Superintendent Stuart Truss said: "We’re making good progress in our investigation into Esther’s death. It is an investigation with a number of complexities, but we are determined to give Esther’s family the answers they need.

"We are working with experts to confirm the breed of the dogs. This may take some days but it’s really important we get it right. I would ask people not to speculate about this element - we will establish the facts and we will keep the community in Jaywick updated." He added: "We’re continuing to support Esther’s family. They have been asked to be able to grieve in peace".

Esther's other daughter Kelly previously told the Mirror: "She was amazing. She was retired and trying to bring her life back on track after the passing of my sister two years ago. She came to visit my nephew and now she is dead. We told him that they were dangerous. This is a very distressing time for our family."
