A man has been praised for his response after his wife spent a whopping £23,000 of his money to attend a Taylor Swift concert. While he usually doesn't mind sharing his £160k wages with his unemployed wife, he didn't expect her to book such a lavish event at such a high cost.

Sharing the story, his wife's brother said on Reddit : "I have a sister, Melissa*, 37, who is a huge fan of Taylor Swift. Recently she has been fighting with her husband Josh, 35, about how she spends money carelessly. Her spending has been an issue throughout their marriage. Melissa doesn’t work but Josh makes about £160k ($200k) a year.

"It all came to a head about a week ago when Josh discovered £23k ($30k) missing from their savings account, according to his brother, Josh snooped on Melissa’s transaction history, and discovered during a supposed trip to see Melissa’s friend for a week.

"She was going to drive down a state and stay with her. Melissa had withdrawn £23k ($30k) from the savings account and spent it on a week in Brazil to see a Taylor Swift concert and party by herself. She spent every penny of that £23k ($30k) and came back like nothing happened."

Her luxury trip went unnoticed for three months until this week when Josh checked over his bank transactions - and noticed the hefty withdrawal. The brother added: "They had a massive fight, and eventually the police were called and Melissa went to stay in a hotel.

"Now, the money she had in her personal account is almost out and she showed up outside my house begging to be let in. This is how I heard most of this story, except for how Josh found out. I told her tough s***, she needed to figure this out by herself and I’m not going to support her due to her past spending issues at home."

Wanting to know whether he's in the wrong, he added: "My parents called me and said I was being an a***hole for not housing my sister in her time of need, so, am I the a***hole? Readers went wild at the Taylor Swift-inspired story, with one saying: “She has a history of stealing? Has she stolen from you? Your family or friends? I wouldn't let a known thief in my home either! Related or not!”

Another said: “She's immature, dangerously spontaneous, and fiscally irresponsible. For her to blow through £23k ($30k) in savings is unforgivable." One reader said she was lucky not to be charged with theft: “She could be sleeping in a bunk in a jail cell if she continues like this. Tell her to go ask Taylor Swift to take her in”.
