Jamie Carragher uses Neil Warnock joke to reinforce Martin Odegaard criticism
Jamie Carragher has stuck by his criticism of Martin Odegaard by explaining the origin of his comments in the wake of Arsenal ’s win over Liverpool on Sunday.
Carragher made headlines for slamming the Arsenal captain’s behaviour following his side’s crucial 3-1 win at the Emirates Stadium. Odegaard enjoyed the win with the club photographer, taking his camera and getting him to pose for photos in front of the fans.
It looked like a harmless bit of fun from the Norwegian, but Carragher took exception, saying on Sky Sports: “Just get down the tunnel! You’ve won a big game, you’ve got the three points, you’re back in the title race, just get down the tunnel. I’m being serious, honestly.”
Some took the former Liverpool defender’s comments as sour grapes after the Gunners outplayed his old club. But Carragher was unfazed, taking to Twitter to double down on his hot take. Quote-tweeting the clip, he wrote: “By all means enjoy it, but enjoy it by being disciplined!”
Former Norway international and broadcaster Jan Aage Fjortoft replied: “Come on @Carra23. Let Martin show his passion! Also on the pitch. Let him have this moment with his mates at @Arsenal like @Stuart_PhotoAFC.

“Nothing to do with being disciplined or not. Football could do with more people express their love for the game. I know you deep inside agree with me, mate”.
Carragher was not amused, replying: “Jan, it’s a joke about a Neil Warnock quote, FFS! I like the way you’ve tagged them all in including the camera man so you get the retweets & likes you want. I thought the camera stuff was a bit OTT, a bit like your claim that Mo Salah would leave Liverpool!”

Warnock then chipped in, writing: “Love listening to your opinions Carra, but get your own catchphrase!” Carragher saw the funny side, retweeting the comment and replying with some laughing emojis while wishing him luck at Aberdeen – the Scottish side the 75-year-old is expected to take over in the coming days.
The mini-storm around Carragher’s comments distracted from what was an impressive and hugely important win for Arsenal, who ensured they stayed in the Premier League title race. Bukayo Saka ’s goal from a rebound put them ahead, but they went in at half-time level after Gabriel Magalhaes’ unfortunate own-goal.
Mikel Arteta ’s side dominated the second half, however, and re-took the lead when Alisson Becker and Virgil van Dijk conspired to leave the ball for Gabriel Martinelli to score into an empty net. And Leandro Trossard made the points safe when his effort took a deflection off Van Dijk to go through Alisson’s legs late on.
Victory moved Arsenal second, two points behind Liverpool, but Manchester City can hit the top with their two games in hand. Pep Guardiola ’s side are third, but a win over Brentford on Monday night will see them re-take second place.
