Mike and Zara's dogs accompanied by senior royal when they go to toilet

With royal owners, it’s only right that Mike Tindall and Zara Phillips’ dogs get treated like royalty, which means they get their own plush furnishings and even go to the toilet with a senior human royal.

Ex-rugby player Mike reveals his father-in-law regularly wees outside when he lets the dogs out. Mike says it’s “an old man thing” and laughs: “He takes the dog for a walk just to go for a pee himself. Your toilet is there, just there.”

His wife Zara’s dad is Captain Mark Phillips, although her mum Princess Anne has since remarried Vice Admiral Timothy Laurence.

Mike – who has three dogs Storm, Pepper and Blink named after female superheroes – was chatting to comedian Jack Dee, who revealed that he also uses his dog’s nighttime trip into the garden as his own toilet break.

“My father-in-law does that as well,” laughed Mike, who reassured Jack the habit is commonplace. Meanwhile, Mike’s mutts are pampered pups, with “big sofa beds and a big double armchair”.

Funnyman Seann Walsh, who met Mike in I’m A Celeb, remarks the dogs’ furnishings are “bigger than my sofa” as the pair reunited for the two comedians’ Oh My Dog! podcast.

HRHounds also have their own “dog room” to sleep in – which Mike explains is more like a pooch porch. Quite the dog house…
