A unique Cornwall cottage surrounded by woodland and sat beside a mystifying ancient village is up for sale. Boasting charm and character throughout, the secluded property is ideal for buyers on the hunt for a peaceful retreat to call their own.

The cottage neighbours an ancient settlement dating back thousands of years and has been described as a "rare" and "unique" find for anyone wanting to live surrounded by land. The home is nestled within around three acres of woodland in the picturesque village of Sancreed.

History lovers can also enjoy the stone underground passage, known as a fogue, which dates back to 200BC and is right next to the property in Carn Euny - one of the best-preserved ancient iron age villages in the South West. The property's listing on RightMove reads: "This charming granite cottage offers far reaching rural and coastal views and is sure to be popular with writers and artists alike due its tranquil and peaceful atmosphere and surroundings.

Penzance - the largest town in West Cornwall - is just a ten minute drive from the cottage and is best known for its prosperous market town and fishing port, but also makes for a great day out with a host of activities, from galleries and theatres to museum and Celtic festivals throughout the year, there are plenty of ways to keep busy in Penzane.

Sancreed on the other hand is much quieter, and more like a scattered village with charming cottages in the picturesque Penwith area west of Penzance. Its main attraction is the Sancreed Holy Well, set under a group of holly, pine and rhododendron trees.

While much of the folklore surrounding the well has been forgotten, it remains shrouded in mystery, with some believing it posesses healing powers and others tracing its origins back to St. Credan, a mythological saint who was said to have accidently killed his father before becoming a swineherd (a person who tends pigs) in penance.
