Angela Rippon has been spotted for the first time since being forced to pull out of show on the Strictly Come Dancing tour following a health scare.

The legendary broadcaster was arriving at her hotel in Manchester on Saturday after she had shared on Instagram the reasons why she had to miss the Leeds leg of the tour. The 79-year-old had been dancing on stage in Liverpool on Wednesday night when she suffered a serious asthma attack and needed urgent medical attention.

Paramedics treated her on site and insisted that Angela would need two days bed rest to overcome the effects of the asthma attack, before she returned to the stage at Manchester's AO Arena with her Strictly co-stars. Angela looked like she was well prepared for the wintry weather as she wore a grey coat with faux fir trim along with black trousers, as she was pictured stepping off the Strictly tour coach.

Angela had confirmed that she was once again "dancing fit" after her health setback and was ready to take her turn on the Strictly dancefloor with her professional dance partner Kai Widdrington. In a lengthy Instagram video, Angela shared details of her health scare and recovery. She told fans: “Hello everyone, I’m afraid I’ve been off the grid for a couple of days because, as some of you may know, I suffered a major medical meltdown at the beginning of the week.

“When we were in Liverpool I managed to pick up an infection which went straight to my chest. It affected my breathing very badly and, as some of you may know, I do suffer from asthma. And on Wednesday evening, when I was about to go on and dance the Cha Cha Cha, I’m afraid the infection triggered a serious asthma attack and when I started to dance, I stopped breathing basically.

"Which was all a bit scary, not just for me, but for Kai as well because I was a bit like a rag doll on the dance floor – sorry Liverpool. And I think Kai wasn’t really quite sure what was happening but, fortunately, we always had paramedics in the arenas when we perform and when I came off they gave me oxygen so I was able to breathe again, and also make the trip to Leeds. But once I got to Leeds, the company doctor was very, very firm. He said that the infection was a lot worse than I thought. I had to have two days bed rest. No dancing. And he put me on a very impressive regime of medication.

“Well, we’re now in Manchester and I’m very happy to say that I think - I mean, the company has been marvellous. And the pills have certainly worked their magic. I can’t say I’m fighting fit, but I’m certainly dancing fit so I’m ready to start ripping up the dance floor again on the tour, starting right here tonight in Manchester."

Angela was seen arriving at the hotel along with her fellow Strictly contestant Bobby Brazier, 20, who has been at the centre of romance rumours with Strictly winner Ellie Leach. The EastEnders star was looking relaxed as he spoke to fans while holding a bunch of flowers. He dressed casually in a light blue tracksuit with tanned Ugg boots. Bobby had a pair of headphones in place as he worked the crowd before giving a thumbs up to fans,.
