A Place In The Sun has also paid tribute, sharing a black-and-white image of the late presenter. The show said: "Sharing a black and white photo of Jonnie, they said: "We are heartbroken. Jonnie was a much-loved part of the A Place In The Sun family for more than 18 years - he brought joy, with and bundles of energy to the show. We will miss him terribly. Coronation Street's Kate Ford penned a red heart. Radio and television legend Nicki Chapman commented: "Heartbroken. Sending love to Jess & the family." Escape to the Country presenter Sonali Shah typed: "I feel so lucky to have known Jonnie. Sending you love xxx." Meanwhile, one fan added: "Rest peacefully Jonnie, you have been an inspiration. Thoughts and prayers at this time with those who love you most."

Jonnie never told his three young sons about his health battle. He explained that he feared the devastating news would be too difficult for them to process and by keeping them out of the loop, he would be able to create many more happy memories. In an interview with Hello! Magazine, Jonnie said at the time of sharing his diagnosis: "I keep being asked, 'Are you going to tell them?' but tell them what? It would be horrible news that they'd have to get their heads around. And it would confuse the hell out of Rex – he's got a shocking enough day coming. Let's bury our heads in the sand for as long as possible."
