Elisabeth Moss has confirmed she is expecting her first child.

The Handmaid's Tale star made the announcement on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, putting an end to the rumours that had been sparked earlier in the week when she was spotted on set with what looked like a baby bump. During her chat with Jimmy Kimmel, the host asked her directly if she was pregnant or just a very dedicated method actor.

"A little bit of both," she replied, adding that things were going "Not bad, actually. I've been really lucky. It's been going really well." Elisabeth tends to keep her personal life private, so not much is known about her due date or who the father is.

During the chat show appearance, she asked Jimmy for parenting advice. He shared a tip from comedian Bill Murray: "He said bring Christmas lights to hang up [in the delivery room]. Because the lighting is terrible in the room. It's Walmart-style lighting for this blessed event that's going to happen and you don't want that."

"I think that's a really good list, I like that," she responded. Moss has previously expressed her desire to have children, inspired by her mum Linda. "I definitely want to have kids because I've been very inspired by the kind of mother my mom is. She did a beautiful thing with me," she told the Daily Mail.

In 2018, Moss was unsure about becoming a parent. "It's not for everybody, and I didn't know if it was going to be for me, but lately, I think it is," she confessed to Marie Claire.

The happy news follows the sad passing of Elisabeth's father, Ron Moss. He passed away on January 18 in Clearwater, Florida, after a brief illness. His grandson, Max, confirmed his death. "Ron made so many friends throughout his rich life and we want everyone to know that you all meant so much to him."

"Thank you for everything that any of you did for him throughout his life," Max wrote about his grandad, as obtained by TMZ. Ron was born and raised in the UK while he and his ex-wife Linda, raised Elisabeth and her brother Derek in Los Angeles. He was a professional musician, who played in jazz bands throughout his life as a trained trombone player.

He also served as a manager for some big names including American jazz pianist and composer Chick Corea, who is The Handmaid Tale's godfather, and American singer-songwriter Isaac Hayes, amongst others. The musician was a scientologist, like his daughter Elisabeth, and gigged with Scientology leader David Miscavige.

Elisabeth previously defended her relationship with Scientology, labeling the religion "misunderstood". She told The New Yorker: "It's not really a closed-off religion. It's a place that is very open to, like, welcoming in somebody who wants to learn more about it. I think that's the thing that is probably the most misunderstood."
