Maya Jama has discussed her "first work trip abroad," which she's revealed saw her end up in hospital following an accident whilst out in Cyprus more than a decade ago.

The presenter, now 29, took to Instagram earlier to reflect on the experience. It's understood to have taken place in the tourist resort Ayia Napa on the island and she had first written about it in her debut post on the platform in 2012.

The post featured photos from the trip, including one that showed Maya sat in a wheelchair. Another appeared to show her in the back of an ambulance, whilst one gave a close-up of her injured foot whilst she lay in a hospital bed.

The post has resurfaced this month through website Tyla, which highlighted various celebrity's first posts on Instagram. Maya's was featured and she subsequently looked back on it herself on her Instagram Story this week.

Alongside the photos, she wrote: "First work trip abroad ended up in hospital (as you can see the adrenaline was up in the ambulance until they told me I could have lost a toe." Maya included a laughing emoji in the caption of the post.

Love Island fans say Maya Jama's return to South Africa means Casa Amor is backLove Island fans say Maya Jama's return to South Africa means Casa Amor is back

The Love Island host - who reflected on the experience whilst away at the moment in South Africa filming ITV2's spin-off All Stars - had first posted about the accident in July 2012. She wrote on the platform then: "How to end up in hospital on ur 2nd night by @MayaJama #AyiaNapa."

Maya opened up about the incident during an appearance on PrettyLittleThing's Behind Closed Doors podcast back in 2019. She shared at the time: "I went to Ayia Napa when I was 17 [...] to host Charlie Sloth's [show] Fire in the Booth."

She added that the day before the beach party event she ended up "slipping" on a kerb. Maya said: "The bottom of my foot was hanging off [...] I had to be in hospital for two days and ended up in a wheelchair for the rest of the time."

The guest continued on the podcast: "I ripped a nerve [which meant that I] couldn't feel it. So I was getting carried into the ambulance like 'wahey,' loving it - not knowing that I might not be able to bend my f***ing toes." She added that one toe still "doesn't tuck," though said that it can "bend".
