Just a week after Diablo 4 Season 3 kicked off the new year with a myriad of fresh content, Activision Blizzard is already giving diehards more reasons to get stuck in.

Diablo 4 Season 3 is now fully underway, gifting players a pet-like robot companion to customise and command alongside a new dungeon type called Vaults to do it with. Apparently the new season’s bountiful of content isn’t enough to let Activision Blizzard stand still, however, as the Diablo developer is set to launch an all-new limited-time event called Lunar Awakening as early as next week.

The upcoming Diablo 4 Lunar Awakening event has been fully detailed in a blog post on the official Blizzard news website, where Activision Blizzard describes it as “a mysterious phenomenon” that has caused shrines throughout Sanctuary to become imbued with “immense and prosperous power”. In laymen’s terms, players who complete these new Lunar Shrines will receive exclusive buffs, which while active will offer perks such as better movement speed and a 50% XP bonus.

During this event Nightmare Dungeon Sigils will have a unique Ancestor’s Favor dungeon affix applied, transforming every shrine within it to a Lunar Shrine. All these effects will last from now until the end of the event, which kicks off on Tuesday, February 6 for a total of two weeks up until Tuesday, February 20 . Players will easily be able to identify Lunar Shrines too, thanks to each’s special look designed to match the event’s Year of the Dragon festivities.

Finally, to cap things off, the Diablo 4 Lunar Awakening limited-time event will make six Lunar-themed cosmetic rewards available. These will apply both to your current character class – played in either the Seasonal or Eternal realm – and your accompanying mount. With just two weeks to unlock these goodies, it’d be wide jumping into Lunar Awakening sooner rather than later.

That’s no moon

Diablo 4 Lunar Awakening isn’t a grand reinvention of the way the game is played, functioning like other limited-time events run previously like the festive-themed Midwinter Blight. That said, its arrival can only help what has until this point been a relatively mixed Diablo 4 Season 3. It started out strong but players quickly grew to loathe the frustrating traps littered in Vaults and some seriously underpowered loot, until they were addressed by emergency patch 1.3.0a detailed in by community development director Adam Fletcher in a Blizzard forum post.

The introduction of Lunar Shrines at least will give diehard Diablo 4 players something fresh to focus on when not taking on the new Malphas boss as part of Diablo 4 Season 3. 50% XP and improved movement speed can only be a good thing after all, right? Especially in a game that players are always looking to grind, farm, and run through as fast as possible in order to make the best use of time. If it’s received well, my hope is that Activision Blizzard considers bringing these changes in permanently.
