Man caught with 'human sacrifices' hit list was city school security guard

A day after it was announced that two New York City brothers were arrested for allegedly making a "hit list" targeting everyone from "cops, judges, politicians, celebrities" and "banker scum" to be used as "human sacrifices," it was revealed that one of those brothers was a security guard — at an elementary school.

Angelo Hatziagelis, 51, used to work at John F. Kennedy Elementary School in Great Neck, a village on Long Island, it was reported, until the school discovered the heinous crimes — an indictment of around 130 — that he has since been charged with.

The Astoria man, who was arrested alongside his brother, Andrew, 39, at the apartment they shared with their mother in the Queens neighbourhood earlier this month, worked for Arrow Security, The New York Post reported, and was not directly employed by the district, though he still served the elementary school on a regular basis, Superintendent Kenneth Bossert told the publication.

Bossert said in an email to district parents obtained by The New York Post: "The individual in question had been assigned to JFK Elementary without any incident of any kind since the start of this school year." He added: "However, I must emphasize that he has not been present at JFK or any district facility since his arrest and he will not be permitted to return to school grounds for any reason moving forward."

Bossert later added that Hatziagelis had "met all New York State requirements to hold an unarmed security guard license," even at the time of his arrest, and vowed that the district would be working closely with Arrow Security to ensure that everyone hired to work at the district pass various checks and that no steps are "overlooked."

He added that Arrow Security said Hatziagelis had even passed a full background check prior to his hiring but that they'd ensure more steps are taken in the future.

The brothers were busted after allegedly stockpiling numerous explosives and "ghost guns" — weapons that have had their serial numbers filed off and are seemingly untraceable — at their Queens residence, according to a press release from the Queens District Attorney. Nearby buildings had to be evacuated due to the danger posed by the explosives. Hundreds of rounds and over two dozen magazines were seized, as was a 3D printer and eight live explosives as well as other paraphernalia.

The authorities also reportedly found anarchist propaganda, which seemed to form the basis of their plans. "Wipe out the scum," the scribbled notes on the paper read. "Wipe out the earth." The "human sacrifices" were dubbed "permitable but only for the corrupt rapists, pedophiles, murderers, politicians, judges."

"Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced that Andrew and Angelo Hatziagelis were indicted on 130 counts of criminal possession of a weapon and related charges after an arsenal of improvised explosive devices and ghost guns, including assault rifles, was found inside an Astoria apartment they shared with their mother and another brother," the press release reads. But despite all those charges, each faces up to only 25 years in prison, the release states.

"Today’s charges underscore the harsh reality that our communities contain a small number of people who conceivably harbor evil intent," New York Police Department Commissioner Edward A. Caban said, according to the release. "This cache of weapons – including explosives and untraceable, 3D-printed ghost guns – had the potential to wreak horrendous carnage."

The arrest reportedly occurred on Jan. 17, and the brothers are slated to appear in court on Feb. 15 to answer for the charges. The brothers' lawyers did not immediately return messages for comment on Monday.
