Robbie Williams is planning to buy a football club - and there are even rumours a reality show about his move could be in the works too.

The 49-year-old singer has been a lifelong fan of Port Vale Football Club - who train and play in Stoke-on-Trent where the Let Me Entertain You Singer hails from. Now it’s suggested Rob could follow in the footsteps of Ryan Reynolds to snap up the club - as the 47-year-old Canadian actor, alongside American actor Rob McElhenney, 46, bought Wrexham Football Club in November 2020.

Similar to Ryan and Rob, who star in the sports documentary series Welcome to Wrexham which chronicles the fortunes of the club since he bought it, Rob may too feature on camera if he buys the English club. There are hopes Port Vale could then go on to find success in the leagues.

There are hopes that the involvement of the former Take That star will inject a huge amount of new interest in the club. While an avalanche of money could be added to the club due to new merchandise.

A source told The Sun: “It’s really early days, but Robbie’s been formally approached to see if he’s interested in fronting a bid. Port Vale remains one of his greatest loves, and it’s always been a dream to be more involved.

“He’s had a couple of meetings, and his backers are incredibly excited. They feel Rob would add the star quality, and make Port Vale a major player. Seeing what Ryan and Rob have done with Wrexham — the increased footfall, merchandise sales and general profile build — is inspiring. Port Vale fans love Robbie and, on paper, it’s a match made in heaven.”

Robbie has hinted that a sale could be being discussed behind closed doors. He was named club president over the weekend and posed in a team shirt, with the caption: “Up The Vale.” He played for the club back in 2001 and has helped design their shirts. He even referred to the club when he created an American football team - naming them Los Angeles Vale.

Robbie was thrilled to be made Port Vale president over the weekend, saying in a video shared via X: “My life is bizarre and wonderful and has taken many turns and twists and to find myself from the Railway Paddock to be 'El Presidente' is pretty special.”

He also expressed his pleasure at the fact that co-owner and chair Carol Shanahan had ‘revitalised’ the club. He gushed: "It feels as though I need to be doing more in and around this place." "I just think with Carol and family turning up to Port Vale - if it hadn't been for them none of this would be happening. Football clubs are run by people with certain characters. The reason why I hadn't come back up to Port Vale in the longest time, was I never met the characters that ran the place.

"The club hadn't felt loving, homely or welcoming. Then Carol and her family came in, revitalised, changed the place and I noticed this happening from afar and thought that's incredibly interesting. And it sort of got me to reinvest, first interest and then - meeting the family and coming and seeing what was going on - investing my heart back into the club. Let the good times roll.”
