Ted will explore the sweary teddy bear's younger years

After bursting onto the big screen more than 10 years ago, everyone’s favourite foul-mouthed teddy bear is starring in his own TV series. Launching in February, the Ted series serves as a prequel to the 2012 film and follows the younger days of the talking teddy and his best friend John.

It is the latest project from Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane, who serves as co-showrunner and co-writer and has directed every episode. Speaking ahead of the show’s launch, he said the series should “evoke the tone and the personality” of the films while still feeling “very new.”

Ted launched in the US earlier this month and has been well-received, currently boasting a 90 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. It also became the most-watched original title in the history of NBC's streaming platform Peacock over its first three days, Collider reported.

What is Ted about?

The Ted series serves as a prequel to the hit comedy film of the same name, which starred Mark Wahlberg as a man whose long-time best friend is a teddy bear named Ted. The series takes place in 1993, after Ted’s moment of fame has passed and he’s back home living in Framingham, Massachusetts with his best friend, 16-year-old John Bennett, along with John’s parents, Matty and Susan and cousin Blaire.

The adorable-looking bear is a bad influence on young John, but he’s a loyal friend who’s always willing to go out on a limb for the sake of their friendship.

How to watch Ted

Ted will premiere exclusively on Sky Max. It will be available to watch with a Sky TV package, which is currently available in Sky’s February deal along with Netflix, Sky Stream and Superfast broadband for £39 a month.

But savvy shoppers can save £414 by upgrading the bundle with Sky’s Full Fibre 100Mb/s broadband for just £1 more. That’s because the package has been cut from £63 a month to £40 across the entire 18-month term, while not paying extra for Netflix saves almost £90 more.

Bargain hunters can sign up today to lock in the current price for 18 months and enjoy blockbuster shows like True Detective and the upcoming return of House of the Dragon, plus Netflix shows like Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen and Andrew Scott’s Ripley at no extra cost.

For those who may be looking for a TV package without broadband, Sky offers a great low-cost bundle with Sky TV, Sky Stream and Netflix for £25 a month. There’s also a £28 31-day rolling subscription that can be cancelled any time, while film fans can add Sky Cinema from £10 and get Paramount+ absolutely free, plus two free Vue cinema tickets every month.

Who is in the cast of Ted?

Seth MacFarlane returns for a third outing as the voice of Ted, a teddy bear that came to life thanks to a young boy’s wish. MacFarlane previously played Ted in the original film and its 2015 sequel.

As the series takes place years before the films, the Ted series features an all-new cast, with 26-year-old Max Burkholder playing the young John. The American actor had a main role in US comedy-drama Parenthood and had minor roles in several MacFarlane shows including Family Guy, American Dad!, The Cleveland Show and The Orville.

Euphoria’s Alanna Ubach plays John’s mother, Susan, while American Dad’s Scott Grimes is his father, Matty. They are joined by 13 Reasons Why’s Giorgia Whigham as John’s cousin, Blaire.
