Corrie's Stephanie Beacham 'thought she was going to die' in horror home raid

Coronation Street legend Stephanie Beacham has opened up about a terrifying raid on her home which left her fearing for her life.

Revealing her terrifying experience on Good Morning Britain, Stephanie, 76, told hosts Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley that she faced a frightful incident at home in 2022. Recalling the shocking event, she said: "Luckily I was dressed for gardening, which meant I had a really dodgy jumper on and no jewellery and probably didn't look very much like me. Anyway, I heard a noise downstairs and I thought, well, I've got an assistant, so I shout 'hello?' [then] I looked over [and] there he was - the most frightening face.'"

Sharing more details of the terrifying ordeal, she added: "He did have the opportunity to run for the front door, but he didn't, he leapt up the stairs." Stephanie then carried on describing the offender's actions: "He leapt up the stairs and then there was crowbar over my head, and then [came] the corny dialogue, 'Give me your money, give me your jewellery, don't look at me'."

The actress thought in that moment her life was over as she said: "And I remember thinking 'oh, I'm going to die'." Recalling what happened next, the actress went on: "Then he said, 'Get in there' and I didn't need to be told twice. It was my bathroom, so I got in and locked the door, and I thought, 'You've been such a wimp'. And you haven't got your phone because you dropped it when he saw him and now he's got your phone and the other phone in the other room."

Stephanie shared that she was only armed with a sponge on a stick when she heard the intruder go downstairs, allowing her to leave the bathroom and call the police. The intruder was later identified as 56-year-old David Wilson, who had sixty-four previous convictions. He was charged with aggravated burglary and robbery and was sentenced to ten years and five months in prison.
