A West Bromwich Albion fan has thanked Wolves players Craig Dawson and Matheus Cunha for making sure his young son was okay after violence broke out in the stands at the Black Country derby.

The match was suspended for more than half an hour as a result of the shameful crowd trouble, which occurred after Cunha scored Wolves ' second goal. And Baggies fan Liam Dunn was forced to run onto the pitch with his six-year-old son Corey in order to escape the violence, with both Dawson and Cunha checking on them.

He wrote on social media: "Rivalry aside, despite getting trampled over and pushed out the way in our seats earlier amongst the madness, just wanna say thank you to Craig Dawson and Cunha for asking if he was okay and unhurt!

"I know fans shouldn't go onto the pitch but it was the safest place to keep him at that moment." Several West Brom players and members of Wolves' backroom staff also checked to see if they were okay, with Corey left "a bit shaken" by the experience.

"Luckily I could see the fans charging towards where we sit in that section of the stand every week so I just thought I need to scoop him up and get him as safely away from it as I could," Dunn told the Daily Mail.

"I know you shouldn't as fans enter the pitch but I felt it was probably the safest place he could be. I just thought it would have been easy to not show any interest or concern for what was going on especially as we were fans of the opposition.

"I felt a tap on the shoulder and asking if he was ok. (They asked) 'He's not hurt in anyway is he? You stay here where it's safer don't go back there.' They both came over on separate occasions and asked the same sort of questions and showed concern which was nice of them.

"I think it was Dawson that tapped my shoulder, that's what made me turn around. I actually thought it was going to be a steward telling me to get off the pitch. Then Cunha I think kind of held his hand as I was holding him and asked Corey if he was okay.

"And to be fair a few of the Wolves staff checked he was okay, a few Albion players did also, so it was nice that they all cared to check as I know he was a bit shaken by it all. It's not something he's ever seen before."
