A village that has been dubbed one of the "prettiest" in England welcomed an influx of visitors on the weekend - but it led to a crackdown on parking.

Drivers who headed to Bibury were slapped with fines after they were pictured parking on the pavement, leaving not much room for pedestrians. The invasive parking left locals furious due to potential struggle manoeuvring around the vehicles. Cotswolds Police confirmed they had taken action against the inconsiderate visitors.

In a statement on Twitter, they announced they have addressed complaints from residents and said: “Although there is no specific offence of parking on a pavement, there are limits to what is acceptable parking and what is not. Responding to community concerns PCSOs Bulbul & Grimmett ticketed these cars today in Bibury for Unnecessary Obstruction.”

Social media users flocked to the comment section, as one person questioned: "There appears to be no parking restrictions so why not park against the kerb ?". In response, the force said: "Good question. Perhaps the drivers thought they were doing residents a favour by not blocking more of the road. Clearly we take the view that they've made it less safe for everyone, especially those on foot." Another user wrote: "So many pedestrians in Bibury, this needs to be strictly enforced."

Bibury is regularly hailed for its picture-postcard beauty. It used to feature on the UK passport and was used as a filming location for the movie Stardust, reports Gloustershire Live. Famous poet, William Morris, previously described the village as “the most beautiful place in England” due to its stunning homes and countryside appearance. The area is often re-created in paintings, with the most popular area being Arlington Row, where historic cottages can be seen perfectly situated by the river. Winding street, which is known for its colourful flowers, can also be found in paintings.

CN Traveler previously labelled Bibury one of the “prettiest” villages in the UK due to its "charming" properties. “A picture-perfect spot in the Cotswolds, Bibury is best known for the National Trust-protected Arlington Row and its charming weavers’ cottages, which date back to the 14th century," the publication wrote. Whilst Country Living also said it was one of the most "romantic" locations in the country. They wrote: “Whether you visit in the summer or the winter, romance abounds within this honey-hued area of the UK and you’d be hard-pressed not to immediately fall in love.”
