Maya Jama couldn't resist a new tattoo after a few too many drinks as she showed off her new addition to her fans.

The Love Island host posed for an Instagram video showing her going under the needle after deciding an impulse inking was what the doctor ordered as she nursed a hangover. She thankfully went for a lion on her ankle not something she would seriously regret and the star appeared happy with the outcome.

"So we have basically decided to get a tattoo on a hangover," she told fans in the clip. "I didn't know what I wanted until about two seconds ago. I've decided to get a lion." Wearing a pair of blue denim shorts as the artist got down to work, Maya beamed despite the pain as she added to her collection in South Africa. As a Leo, Maya may have got the lion as a sweet symbol for her star sign. Equally, it could just act as a reminder of her time in the country while presenting Love Island.

The presenter's other tattoos have real significance to her. One, spelling out the initials 'RG' in swirling text, is a rarely-seen tribute and has a heartbreaking story behind it. The initials correspond with those of Maya's ex-boyfriend, Rico Gordon, who was shot dead after finding himself in the wrong place at the wrong time in July 2011.

Then 16-year-old Maya was on the phone to Rico, who was from London, as the nightmare unfolded. Rico had called his girlfriend to get directions to her house became caught in the crossfire of a gunfight between two Bristol gangs on Stapleton Road after St Paul's Carnival. Elsewhere on her body, Maya has a script tattoo that runs vertically down her hip. When translated from Arabic, the tattoo reads: "Love like you've never been hurt, dance like nobody's watching".

It comes as Maya is reportedly being lined up to host the 2024 BRIT awards after Mo Gilligan, 35, stepped down. An TV source told The Sun: "She is the hottest presenter in the UK right now and is ideal for the presenting cast. There has been six years of solo male hosts, so it's time to mix up the formula and there is a lot of buzz about the new line-up."

Mo recently announced his diary is just so packed there's no space to host this time. He confirmed: "I've had the most incredible time working on The Brits but unfortunately as I'll be in the US for my first World Tour next spring, I'm sorry to say that I'll be stepping down from hosting duties for 2024 and handing over the baton.

"It's been phenomenal to work on this iconic event. I've loved getting to know all the remarkable people who run The Brit Trust and the outstanding Brit School. The tireless work you do to improve lives through the power of music and the creative arts is sensational and I promise to continue supporting wherever I can. Thank you to ITV for making a young man's dream come true."
