Trump says 'we are on brink of World War 3' in angry Iran rant over drone deaths
Donald Trump has claimed " we are on the brink of World War 3 " and blasted Joe Biden in a furious rant after three US soldiers were killed in a drone strike in Jordan in a major escalation.
In a furious tirade on his own TruthSocial website, he claims the attack in Jordan, which the White House is pinning on Iran-backed, radical militants, would never have happened if he were still the President. US Central Command confirmed the killings today and said a further 25 were wounded in the attack by Iran-backed militia. President Biden said the US would “hold all those responsible to account at a time and in a manner of our choosing” in a statement.
But in an angry rant on his TruthSocial account, Trump said the attack demonstrated Biden's 'weakness'.
He said: "The drone attack on a U.S. Military Installation in Jordan, killing 3 American Servicemembers, and wounding many more, marks a horrible day for America. My most profound sympathies go to the Families of the Brave Servicemembers we have lost. I ask all Americans to join me in praying for those who have been wounded. This brazen attack on the United States is yet another horrific and tragic consequence of Joe Biden’s weakness and surrender….

Trump was joined in the criticism of Biden by his Republican presidential candidate rival, Nikki Haley.

This shows the barbaric nature of our enemies in Iran. And it shows that they would not be attacking our troops if Joe Biden weren't so weak in his treatment of Iran. We should retaliate with the full force of American strength. It's the only way to prevent further war. If we do not, these attacks will only continue. Join us in lifting up these heroes and their families in prayer."
The attack took place in the northeast of Jordan near the Syrian border, US Central Command said. American troops have long used the country as a basing point - with some 3,000 soldiers typically stationed there.
Joe Biden said in a statement posted to X, formerly Twitter, that he mourned the loss of US service personnel. He said: "Last night, three US service members were killed, and many wounded, during an unmanned aerial drone attack on our forces stationed in northeast Jordan near the Syria border.
"Jill and I join the families and friends of our fallen in grieving the loss of these warriors in this despicable and wholly unjust attack. Have no doubt: We will hold all those responsible to account at a time and in a manner of our choosing."

Ex-UN weapons inspector David Albright warned Biden that a hit on the rogue state could spark a nuclear conflict .

He said: "You certainly don’t want to attack Iran now by any means, but you do need to retaliate. Certainly, any retaliation should be directed at the group, with a message to Iran: ‘Control your proxies.’ One of the reasons to do that is you don’t want Iran to feel it’s being backed into a corner where it feels that building nuclear weapons is its best way out. Iran has quite a nuclear weapons capability that they’ve put together over the last 20-something years.”
There are fears that an escalating conflict in the middle east could result in the use of nuclear weapons (AFP via Getty Images)However, security and intelligence analyst Colin P Clarke, who is director of research for the The Soufan Group, said a "full-throated response against Iran" was needed.
He wrote on X: "Pivotal moment here for the Biden administration. Anything less than a full-throated response against Iran will invite further attacks against U.S. troops. Half-assed response would also leave Biden vulnerable to attacks from domestic political rivals accusing him of being soft."
The three soldiers were the first troops to be killed amid months-long airstrikes against US soldiers across the Middle East by Iranian-backed groups during the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza. The incident marks a major escalation in the conflict roaring in the Middle East since the onset of the war in Gaza.
However, security analyst Michael Horowitz said the location of the attack was not random. The base that was struck in Jordan, known as Tower 22, is strategically important given its proximity to Syria. And Mr Horowitz said the outpost was likely to be providing support to another base just over the border.
He said: "The attack was **in Jordan** which makes it even more significant. The outpost that was attacked, Tower 22, is likely connected/providing support for the al-Tanf base, on the other side of the border."
