The Masked Singer fans spot clue that exposes Cricket as global pop star
Fans of The Masked Singer are convinced that they know who the celebrity is behind the disguise of Cricket on the ITV show.
Fans believe that Seal is the star under the guise of the Cricket costume after singing a version of Rhythm of the Night, which was originally released in 1992. In a bid to generate hype, ITV posted a message on their website asking that asked who was behind the costume. And fans were quick to comment. One fan said on X, formerly known as Twitter: "Is Cricket Seal? #TheMaskedSinger." Another said "Is Cricket Seal??!! I'm ignoring the clues and just going by the voice #TheMaskedSinger."#TheMaskedSinger I'm going in early but I think that's Seal inside Grasshopper. I swear that's him!"
But fans were not determined that the global music legend would appear on the ITV show, as a fan admitted: "I was thinking Cricket sounds like Seal but don’t think he would lower himself #TheMaskedSinger. However, Seal, whose real name is Henry Olusegun Olumide Adeola Samuel, has actually appeared on the US version of the show, hiding in a Leopard costume.
And so this year host Joel Dermott said: "That was so good! I'm going to go back to a previous guess I had. I think this could be Levi Roots." But Rita Ora said: "When you sang, Cricket, you sang at my best friend's wedding, that's Lemar."
This comes after the ITV show axed The Owlw, who was unmasked as Lorraine Kelly. The show returned earlier this month, with panellists Davina McCall, Jonathan Ross, Rita Ora and Mo Gilligan back again on Saturday night, where they were joined by guest Ellie Goulding as they tried to work out the identity of the characters
Three new celebrities are set to join The Masked Singer panel this weekendAfter her reveal, Lorraine said: "I've loved being Owl, I've loved every single second, the show is so joyful." Talking about why she signed up, she admitted: "I just wanted to have a bit of fun to kick off the year and to be a bit silly. I've never had a chance to sing in front of an audience before, and I thought if I was behind a mask it wouldn't be as scary."
Lorraine then admitted she was shocked the judges didn't pick up on her distinctive Scottish accent as she said: "I was astounded that the panel didn't get me right away because I thought they would hear my Scottish accent. I worked really quite hard to try and not be too Scottish, but I thought they would get me right away, and I thought it was hilarious who they were saying was. It was really funny. I was really pleased that they didn't get me."
Taking to X, now Twitter, fans were quick to respond. One person said: "Lorraine has such a lovely voice! Well done xxx #MaskedSingerUK." Another said: "Not very often I get one right but guessed Lorraine Kelly !! #MaskedSingerUK." And a third added: "You could have given me 1000 guesses and I'd never have gotten Lorraine Kelly. #MaskedSingerUK."
