Singer 'faked death threats from cartel to cancel concert' over low ticket sales
Mexican pop singer Peso Pluma allegedly made up threats from a drug cartel to cancel his own show.
The acclaimed artist, 24, is said to have been believed to have received death threats from the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), which reportedly led him to cancel his show in Tijuana, Mexico, last October. However, it's now been claimed that poor ticket sales were the real reason for the cancellation, with only a third of the available 30,000 tickets reportedly sold.
Journalist Luis Chaparro posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, recently: "Peso Pluma had to cancel his concert in Tijuana for Oct last year due to alleged threats from a Mexican cartel. Turns out he only sold 10,000 tickets out of 30,000 and used a narco banner to avoid paying back the sold tickets."
According to the Daily Star, it's been suggested that Peso's concert tickets were even going for as much as $500 each (about £393). Last year, the outlet reported that the pop star was facing death threats - apparently from the CJNG - after he sang about El Chapo, former head of their rival, the Sinaloa Cartel, in front of an estimated 100,000 people.
The artist - whose real name is Hassan Emilio Kabande Laija - made an appearance at a festival in Mexico City. His set was reportedly filled with narcocorrido-style songs, which are described as revering the country's drug traffickers.
'Insane' moment Prince William told Jax Jones his kids were big fans of the DJThe crowd reportedly began chanting 'J.G.L', referencing El Chapo's full name, as Peso performed his track 'Siempre Pendientes' - which is believed to roughly translate to mean 'Always Ready' in English. After his performance, banners demanding him to cancel his forthcoming concert in October reportedly started appearing around the city of Tijuana. The signs were allegedly signed by CJNG.
One stark warning on a banner is said to have read: "This is for you, Peso Pluma. Abstain from performing on October 14 because it will be your last performance because you're disrespectful and [your] loose tongue. Show up and we will f*** you up."
