West Brom boss Carlos Corberan admits he could miss FA Cup showdown with Wolves
The good news for West Brom fans is that Carlos Corberan is eagerly awaiting the birth of his second child.
The bad news is that his second son is due any day now. But Baggies’ supporters shouldn’t worry even if he is called to hospital tomorrow morning before the Black Country derby - because he’s already successfully managed one game from his wife’s bedside.
Almost two years ago, Corberan welcomed his first-born, Marcos, into the world with wife, Claudia. The only problem? His Huddersfield Town team were playing Barnsley in an FA Cup Fourth Round tie.
No matter. Corberan fired up his laptop - and masterminded a 1-0 win. He said: “The due date is February 1 - my wife has told me she doesn’t feel anything yet so I said: ‘Be stable.’ I always try to manage everything.
“That’s part of my target. When my first child was born, it was the day Huddersfield played Barnsley. We knew. The hospital planned the day. And so the day before I moved to the hospital.

“On the day of the game, I was on the laptop, talking with my staff. I didn’t have a possibility of doing anything else. I moved to the comfy area in the hospital and I was there during the game - I spent 90 minutes on the phone with my staff.
“Then, I remember the draw was on the Sunday. She was in labour and there was a television in the room and I watched the draw on television - we got Nottingham Forest. And then she got angry because I was watching the television.”

“We don’t know if the baby will want to be ready for the game or, hopefully, he waits a little bit right now and gives me time to be fully focused on my job. My mum is coming to support my wife. I don’t need to have them in the stadium to feel the support.
“I am hopeful it won’t go on at the same time. I’m pretty calm. I have a lot of intuition - and I have the intuition that it’s not going to happen. I think everything will be normal and then at 7pm on Sunday, we will go to hospital to have the baby.”
