'Argentine Loch Ness Monster' seen in lake as tourists catch a glimpse of humps

A pair of tourists have claimed to have spotted the beast dubbed the "Argentine Nessie" in a lake.

The mysterious monster, known as Nahuelito, was first seen in the waters over 100 years ago. Based in Nahuel Huapi Lake in Patagonia, Argentina, the creature is similar in appearance and size to the Loch Ness Monster.

Like Nessie, the large beast is named after the lake in which it resides. It has been described as a giant serpent or a prehistoric dinosaur such as a plesiosaur.

Also like the Loch Ness Monster, its existence has never been scientifically proven. However, there have been multiple alleged sightings of the creature over the years.

The two friends claimed they saw Nahuelito during a kayaking trip on Sunday. They were enjoying the sunset by the lake when they saw something unusual in the water.

One of the witnesses, named Manuel, told local media: “We suddenly noticed something in the lake and started filming it. We kept a safe distance as we didn’t know what it was, but it was very big and moving quickly. Soon afterwards, it submerged and we didn’t see it again.”

Manuel, who comes from the city of Neuquén, added: “I don’t know exactly what it was, I can’t really pinpoint it, but it was huge.” One local commented: “Finally something well filmed.”

Another said: “Until now, no one has ever shown a reliable video where the monster is seen to confirm whether it exists or not.” Diego guessed: “It’s a herd of wild boars crossing the lake looking for food.” Luque wrote: “They are southern river otters, the mother and her babies, no more than three or four. They feed on fish.”

It comes after a holidaymaker claims he saw Loch Ness Monster and was surprised at her colour. Jarod Strong is utterly convinced he encountered the animal, which he had always thought would be green, but says was actually grey in colour. The tourist said this week: "I was near the castle with my family at about 1 pm when I noticed a little movement in the water. Then the water started to move a bit more, and a long shape came out of the water. He wasn't the green which I thought he would be, he was more a dark grey colour. Then it quickly went away again, but as it was going back under, I could see a longer body. I don't know how long it was, but it looked really long.”
