A bride has been accused of stealing almost £6,000 from her bridesmaids in the lead-up to her wedding.

The woman was slammed by her 11 bridesmaids after they discovered she had fleeced them out of over £500 each, which she claimed was going toward the cost of her hen do - despite later learning that her dad had offered to pay for the whole thing.

One of the bridesmaids, who is also the groom's sister, uncovered the scam after chatting with her brother, who told her it was a "relief" his soon-to-be father-in-law had paid for the party, as it would have been "so expensive" for the women otherwise.

In a lengthy post on Reddit, the woman said she and the other 10 bridesmaids had forked out $650 (£510) each for the beachfront property that they would be staying in during the hen do, making the total amount given to the bride a staggering $7,150 (£5,610). But after handing over the money, the woman discovered that the bride had been "stealing" from her bridesmaids as the money for the property had been covered by her dad.

She wrote: "I get that weddings are expensive but don't have one if it requires stealing from your bridesmaids. I'm assuming I'm the only bridesmaid aware of what's happening here. Not sure if I should spill it to the group or just let it go. There's a chance her dad stepped in and paid for it after the fact, and she just chose not to refund us. I'm unclear about the exact situation and want to avoid embarrassing my brother."

The woman later spoke to her brother and her mum, who went "total FBI" mode and discovered that the bride's dad offered to cover the cost after the bridesmaids had already handed over the cash because he was "p***ed" at his daughter for choosing somewhere expensive and asking her friends to pay for it.

The bride was then supposed to refund her bridesmaids but chose not to because she put the money toward another wedding expense instead - a swan ice sculpture. The Reddit post continued: "She used the $7k to book a swan-shaped ice sculpture to be displayed at the reception and didn't tell anyone.

"Turns out her dad banned her from adding any more 'extras' to the wedding design because it was already so expensive and unnecessary. When he sent her [the money] for the Airbnb, she thought she was being sneaky and kept it instead."

With the mystery of the money uncovered, the bridesmaid was hopeful she could get her money back, but now doesn't think that's going to be the case as the bride's dad has said he refuses to help her out of another mess, so she'll have to figure out how to repay the £500 to each bridesmaid by herself.

And while that should have been the end of the matter, the bride made things even worse for herself when she took to the group chat she had with her bridesmaids to tell the others the truth about the money, but still withheld important information - so was exposed by those who knew the whole story.

The bridesmaid added: "After some threats from my mum, my sister-in-law finally broke down and contacted the bridesmaids in our group chat. She sent a text that made my skin crawl: 'Hey Ladies! You're my bride squad so I feel compelled to share that my dad recently offered to pay for our bach accommodations. However, being that the wedding is so expensive, I have decided to put his donation towards a wedding expense. I hope you all understand.'

"Oh hell no. I immediately replied making sure everyone knew the 'expense' was an ice sculpture. AN ICE SWAN!! Many of them replied and expressed how they would have loved to use that $650 for something more important."

Since the money has already been spent, the bridesmaids have decided not to back out of the trip, but have turned it into a large "personal vacation" with their partners instead of a hen do. The 11 women have also all backed out of hosting and paying for the bridal shower, and "will not be gifting anything".

"We're letting the bride know she needs to cancel the Ice Swan and give us our money back. After some more research, we doubt all of the $7k went towards the alleged swan because it doesn't seem like they cost that much," the woman concluded.
