If you’re craving an easier way to get around Palworld outside of mounts and basic climbing, a Grappling Gun is well worth getting a hold of.

After launching exclusively on PC and Xbox earlier this month, the unusual mix of sandbox survival and creature collecting Palworld provides has continued to take the world by storm. Anyone familiar with Pokemon and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will have some idea what to expect, but in a game all about discovery there’s also plenty that Pocketpair’s breakout hit doesn’t tell you. One of which is the best way to get around, which for many will be the Palworld Grappling Gun.

Like other important structures and resources, obtaining a Palworld Grappling Gun means finding the correct combination of materials and then using them to craft one. Once acquired, you can equip the Grappling Gun to one of your hand slots, where you’ll be able to zip up to cliff edges and far-off surfaces in a matter of seconds.

Palworld Grappling Gun – how to craft one and materials required

To craft and use the Palworld Grappling Gun you’ll need to reach level 12. This you should do fairly naturally by building up your base, catching Pals using Pal Spheres, and just generally following the early tasks the game guides you towards. Once reached, you’ll need to spend one of your Ancient Technology Points in the main menu’s Technology tab to unlock the ability to craft the Grappling Gun.

With the Grappling Gun unlocked, head over to the Workbench you would have built a while ago and craft it. This initial Grappling Gun will work wonders in terms of letting you travel vertically upwards far easier than before. The cooldown and distance can then both be upgraded, once you reach level 17 where you unlock the Mega Grappling Gun, level 32 where you unlock the Giga Grappling Gun, and finally level 47 where you can unlock and craft the Hyper Grappling Gun.

The following is a breakdown of the resources required to craft each version of the Grappling Gun:

Grappling Gun

  • Level 12
  • 10 Paldium Fragment
  • 10 Ingot
  • 30 Fiber
  • 1 Ancient Civilization Part

Mega Grappling Gun

  • Level 17
  • 20 Paldium Fragment
  • 20 Ingot
  • 50 Fiber
  • 4 Ancient Civilization Part

Giga Grappling Gun

  • Level 32
  • 20 Paldium Fragment
  • 20 Ingot
  • 50 Fiber
  • 8 Ancient Civilization Part

Hyper Grappling Gun

  • Level 47
  • 40 Paldium Fragment
  • 30 Refined Ingot
  • 20 Carbon Fiber
  • 20 Polymer
  • 15 Ancient Civilization Part

Naturally, the further you level up and the stronger the Grappling Gun you gain the ability unlock, the trickier the resources required to craft it will become. The standard Grappling Gun will be more than enough to help you move around quicker, however, letting you gain access to tougher Pals to catch. All of which will be a good deal stronger than the best Pals you can catch early on.
