Where The Traitors cast sleep finally confirmed amid castle confusion

The Traitors has become the must-watch show of the winter, with people up and down the country obsessed with the drama and betrayal taking place in the BBC's remote Scottish castle.

While many were concerned the second series couldn't live up to the excitement of season one, it's been even better than before - with more twists and turns than we could have imagined.

Unlike the stars of the debut series, this year's contestants knew what they were signing up for - and had time to prepare how they would play the tricky game. In the opening episode many voiced their desire to play as traitors, convinced they could go undetected and walk away with the cash price.

But many fans have been left wondering if the stars get paid for their time on the show, which is filmed over two weeks. The Mirror's TV columnist Sara Wallis has the answers to all the biggest questions about the show, including if the Traitors and Faithful get a fee for going in.

She explains: "Despite the clips we’re shown of them anxiously preparing for their sleepless night in grand four-poster beds, they don’t really sleep in the castle."

Despite not staying in the castle, to keep the magic alive they do film short clips in the bedrooms which are played when the traitors are debating whether to murder them. These often leave viewers baffled, as while some are shown reading or doing their beauty routines others are showed in the bath or working out topless.

The show sees a group of strangers living together in a castle, with a number of them secretly chosen as 'Traitors'. The rest of the group, known as the Faithful, must work together to work out who the Traitors are.

Series two of the award-winning show - hosted by Claudia Winkleman - has been filled with twists and turns, with some describing it as the best reality TV in years.

People up and down the country have become obsessed with the backstabbing and betrayal, with this year's show seeing many of the Traitors turning on each other. And as with all shows, many people have burning questions about how things work behind the scenes.

Another thing that has left fans scratching their heads is where the contestants sleep at night. In series one, filming suggested they all slept in the lavish castle. However when the show returned, clips showed the contestants being driven away from the beautiful building every night.

Sara confirms that the stars don't get to stay in the fancy castle but instead get their rest at a hotel 45 minutes away. Every evening they are driven into Inverness where they spend the night, before being driven back to the castle for breakfast.

And speaking of breakfast, that's another show secret that's left many viewers - not the mention the hungry contestants - disappointed. According to a number of previous contestants, the morning mean isn't anywhere near as appealing as it looks on TV. When we tune in, we see them sitting at a beautifully decorated morning room to tuck into a spread of pastries, fruit, coffee and juices.

Ivan Brett, who was a Faithful on last year's show, took to X to explain. He writes: "I'm sorry guys, it's time to come clean and leak something shocking about #TheTraitors. It pains me to tell you, but that breakfast is REALLY DRY AND NOT VERY NICE." He later hinted as to why this might be while replying to a friend's reply. The pal wrote: "Pastries going stale while you film everyone entering the room and having to say hello to fifteen people", to which Ivan replied with a bullseye emoji.

Evie Morrison, a contestant on this year's show, also replied to voice her agreement. She wrote: "Watch me still eat it though!!! the stress eating is real."
