Co-op is axing the rewards part of its membership scheme from today, meaning shoppers will no longer get money back on purchases.

Customers who are signed up to Co-op Membership used to earn 2p for every £1 spent on Co-op branded products and services. But the supermarket announced last week that this was coming to an end from today (January 24).

If you've built up money through this part of the scheme, you'll have until December 31, 2024, to spend it. Instead of being able to earn cashback, Co-op has announced today that it is nearly doubling the number of products available with lower prices for its members.

The exclusive prices will also include brands for the first time, such as Warburtons, Cadbury, Robinsons, Pampers and Whiskas. In total, there will be almost 300 products with member-only prices in stores. Co-op says shoppers with a loyalty card will be able to save up to 15%.

Purina Bakers Small Dog Beef & Vegetable Mix (1.1kg) costs £4 normally, but the member price is £3.60. However, just because something is lower in price for members, doesn't mean you can't get it cheaper still elsewhere. Always compare prices online using a shopping tool like Trolley.co.uk. Co-op Membership costs £1 to sign up to.

Matt Hood, Managing Director for Co-op Food, said: “By extending member prices to even more products, including some of the brands our members love the most, I’m delighted they will now be able to benefit from savings on nearly 300 products and essential items they frequently buy in Co-op. And that’s our difference, we exist to create and return value to our members, rather than encouraging shoppers to spend more money than they planned, which other retailer loyalty schemes often do.”

He continued: “Co-op is a vibrant and thriving consumer cooperative, and membership is not a loyalty scheme but rather the Co-op difference in action, whereby the people who own our business, our members, benefit every time they shop, whether that’s lower prices in our stores, cheaper insurance premiums or gaining first-in-line access to presale tickets at Co-op Live.”
