Is Glastonbury festival going Uptown? Uptown Girl singer Billy Joel has had the odds of him appearing at the June gigs slashed, after revealing he is releasing his first single for 17 years.

The 74-year-old star made a surprise announcement that he will release new track Turn the Lights Back On on February 1, which he has co-written with Ariana Grande and Selena Gomez’s songwriters.

It will be Billy’s second single since 1993, and the singer is playing a string of live dates over the summer, following his headline slot at British Summer Time Hyde Park last year.

Now, he’s at 7/2 to perform at Glasto, which takes place at the end of June, ahead of his Cardiff gig in August. Dua Lipa is the favourite to be a headliner at the event, as are Coldplay, and though talks apparently stalled with Madonna she is still tipped.

Billy said this week: “We got a little something we’re working on you might hear sometime.” Although if you fancy something even more Uptown, Henley Festival - with its black tie dress code - have signed holiday-loving Scherzy and Rylan on their bill in July. Hopefully they can recreate their incredible scene when she sent him through to the live finals of the X Factor.

Back in December, legendary singer Cher also appeared to 'confirm' herself for Glastonbury 2024, during a conversation with Rylan Clark. The singer, who has already been rumoured for the coveted 'legends' slot on the Sunday afternoon of the four day festival, was speaking to Rylan on Radio 2. Chatting to the BBC radio presenter on Scott Mills' show, the 77-year-old icon revealed that she would be more than happy to appear at the event.

Rylan said: "There are so many rumours, you haven’t done it yet, Glastonbury. Are we ever going to see Cher take on that Legends slot at Glastonbury?" To which Cher replied: "I’d like to!"

A shocked Rylan asked: "Really?!" Cher confirmed again, saying: "Yes!" Rylan continued: "Right, Cher shake my hand. I’m going to go down to Worthy Farm myself. I don’t care what I’ve got to crawl through, believe me there’s a lot on that farm, I’m going to get you that Legends slot." He asked her if she is "in", to which she said: "Yeah!"
