Jenny Eclair was taken to task by her followers after a foul-mouthed rant about young people on public transport.

The 63-year-old comedian and actress went off on one about the youth of today sitting on seats they shouldn't - and didn't hold back after an experience yesterday. She launched an expletive-filled tirade on Twitter but didn't get the backing she thought she would after many bit back. She later said she'd keep her "trap shut" in the future.

The I’m a Celebrity star had a message for everyone on Monday, grumbling: "Healthy young people please f*****g stop sitting in priority seats on tubes and buses also don’t sit in the seats where the mums with buggies need to sit - and if I ask you to move so a v old man can sit down - don’t tell me to f**k off - you can f**k off - ok?"

She later returned, sarcastically writing: "Anyway have had MASSIVE telling off and in future will keep my trap shut if I ever I see something I judge to be unfair on vulnerable people, in case I’ve got it completely wrong." Some agreed with her words but others were quick to point out that not all disabilities are visible.

"One barked back: "So... You are one of those magic people who can tell I have epilepsy, paralysis and had 6 bleeds on the brain just by looking at me Jenny ? There really is no end to your talents." Another said: "Well that’s interesting and I feel an unfair generalisation, as usually it’s the 'young people' who offer their seat to pregnant women/older persons."

A third said: "Whilst they don't need to swear at you, obviously, it should be pointed out that not all younger people are indeed healthy. Many disabilities are hidden. People don't have to disclose that information, and when pushed on it personally, I find older people hostile to that concept."

But she had support, too. One follower agreed, posting: "Pathetic millennial whataboutism incoming to the comments. I had to physically stop a young teen pushing through a door that an elderly lady was struggling to get through today. They couldn’t wait 5 seconds as I was holding the door for her."

Last summer, Jenny caused a stir on Sunday Brunch. Simon Rimmer and Tim Lovejoy were joined by the 64-year-old and whilst the guests were sat round the table, Simon was cooking them a dish which involved making his own vegan gnocchi. Demonstrating how to form the gnocchi to get it at a perfect consistency, Simon explained: "When you get the gnocchi, you always do it with one hand.

"So you have a clean hand and then it's the right texture when you can put it on there and it feels moist but it isn't sticky, okay?" Being unable to hold her comedic personality, Jenny joked: "A bit like me, moist but not sticky." Sam Ryder, who was sitting next to Jenny was stunned at the quip, as Tim exclaimed: "Really! Really! Really Jen?" Laughing at their reactions, Jenny asked: "What time is it?" to which Simon confirmed: "It is 9:45am. Apologising, Jenny responded: "Sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry!"
