Michael Phelps has welcomed his fourth child, announcing his happy baby news with wife Nicole Johnson.

The swimming legend shared an adorable photograph on Instagram as the happy couple cradle their newborn son, revealing the little one's cute name. Michael and Nicole, both 38, shared the news on social media late last night (January 22).

Michael's sister Hilary Phelps penned: "Alexander and I cannot wait to meet him. sending you all so much love and blessings on the newest arrival." While Larry Fitzgerald wrote "Congratulations on the new member of the Phelps family."

"Can't wait to meet nephew," he added. While Travis Barker's ex Shanna Moakler wrote: "Congrats this makes me so happy." Tennis star Caroline Wozniacki left a flurry of red love heart emojis, writing "congratulations!". Sporting star Katie Ledecky also sent a message.

Nicole announced she was pregnant on their seventh wedding anniversary last October, writing at the time: "For those that are wondering… yes! we're expecting our 4th Phelps in 2024." She shared a carousel of happy memories of the couple's relationship.

The couple met in 2007 before breaking up in 2012, reconciling in 2014 before getting engaged a year later in 2015, one year before welcoming their first child. Michael and Nicole tied the knot in 2016, holding three separate ceremonies at the time.

Michael announced a retirement after the Rio de Janeiro Olympics that year and their second son was born in February 2018. "We would love a girl. Love, love, love a girl," he said at the time, later having another boy in 2019, named Maverick Phelps.

Michael has opened up about parenthood to their boys over the years. "As a kid, I always wanted to have dinner as a family but with my parents separated, that didn't happen often," Michael told PEOPLE in 2021. "I love how we have dinner every night together at the same exact time."

He once praised his sons for "talking about their emotions" after his own battle with depression and anxiety, telling the outlet: "It gives me a lot of hope. I just want them to be as prepared as they can be."
