TV fans can now binge all episodes of Sir David Jason and Jay Blades’ new show which has been praised as “delightful” and “a joy” by critics.

The unlikely duo have been brought together for the BBC’s new series, David & Jay’s Touring Toolshed. TV fans will of course know 83-year-old Sir David for his iconic role as Derek ‘Del Boy’ Trotter in the iconic BBC sitcom Only Fools and Horses.

And they will know 53-year-old Jay for his role as a host on the BBC’s charming daytime TV show, The Repair Shop. Now fans will see both stars working together as they tour the UK with their new series.

Fans can start watching the show as it airs on the BBC on weeknights from Monday 22 January 2024 - or they can watch the entire first season as it is now available to stream on iPlayer. Here are all the details about the brand new show.

What is David & Jay’s Touring Toolshed about and how can I watch it?

David & Jay’s Touring Toolshed sees Only Fools and Horses star Sir David Jason and The Repair Shop’s Jay Blades team up for a brand new series. The show will see the two men travel around the UK with a mobile tool shop where they will meet an interview crafters and inventors.

The series was first announced in June 2023 with an official announcement stating: “Jason and Jay will park up their toolshed at the UK’s air shows, steam rallies, county fairs and vintage festivals, to meet some of the UK’s most talented crafters, makers and tinkerers – as well as people who could use a little help!"

The show airs on BBC Two on weekdays at 6:30pm - with all episodes already available to stream via iPlayer. The first season has an impressive fifteen episodes for fans to watch.

What are critics saying about David & Jay’s Touring Toolshed?

The new show has been branded “a joy” by the Mirror, with Jessica Rawnsley writing: “The banter and repartee between Jay Blades and Sir David Jason is so constant, and amusing, it could have been scripted... Their zinging rapport is part of why their new BBC Two series, David & Jay’s Touring Toolshed, is such a joy. And beneath the veneer of friendly snark, their respect and esteem for one another is palpable.”

The Daily Mail described the show as “delightful” with their critic stating: “David Jason and Jay Blades make a delightful pair as hosts of a new show celebrating Great British Eccentrics.”

The Radio Times also gave a glowing review, writing: “There’s a delightful whiff of British eccentricity about all this and while there aren’t any Repair Shop emotional stories, it’s equally heart-warming, interesting and amiable.”

What have David and Jay said about the show?

Sir David was thrilled to be hitting the road for the new series - and was overjoyed to make a firm new friend in the process. He said last year: "I’ve really enjoyed being on the road with Jay where we have built up a great friendship and had a lot of fun which I hope the viewers will enjoy watching when it airs."

And Jay was just as thrilled to befriend his new work colleague. He gushed: “Working with Sir David Jason, a fellow craft enthusiast, is a dream come true. Filming is underway and it has been great to start helping the nation’s makers fix their passion projects. We've met brilliant people and this series is going to be a delight for the BBC Daytime and iPlayer audiences.”
