An air fryer and a smoothie maker helped Ronnie O'Sullivan taste success in the snooker World Grand Prix.

The 48-year-old world number one overcame Judd Trump in the final of the competition. That saw the snooker maestro add another tournament victory after earning the Masters title just a week ago.

O'Sullivan produced a brilliant comeback having been 4-0 down in Leicester to prevail 10-7 against Trump. The seven-time World Championship winner racked up six frames in a row from 6-3 down to earn a 41st ranking title and pocketed £100,000.

His time in Leicester started with tight matches against Zhou Yuelong and Pang Junxu, before the business end of the tournament saw O'Sullivan lose just one frame each to Ding Junhui and Gary Wilson. The purchase of kitchen appliances allowed the champion to avoid junk food later in the campaign and appeared to assist in reinvigorating the superstar.

O’Sullivan told ITV : “Start of the week I was feeling a bit rough and then I bought myself an air fryer and a smoothie maker. I don’t like eating junk food. It sorts of puts me in a funny place.

“I started feeling better as the week went on. I played some of my best snooker against Ding (Junhui, in his 6-1 semi-final win) and that gave me some confidence because I knew I’d have to play well to do something against Judd.”

O'Sullivan appeared in a more jubilant mood following his Grand Prix win after his success in the Masters saw criticism thrown between the veteran and his opponent, Ali Carter in the days following. The Rocket believes his current abilities have seen him become a better all-round player than in the past.

“I enjoyed that. I really did,” said O’Sullivan. “I know I’m 48, but when I play snooker I can knock 20 years off and I feel quite vibrant. As long as I’m feeling young at the table I don’t feel age is an issue.

“I think experience is helping me. I’ve won a lot of tournaments, been around a while and learned a lot about the game. I think I’m a better all-round player than I’ve ever been.”
