Teen girl who plotted to kill her parents sentenced to decades in jail

An Illinois girl was sentenced to 60 years in prison after she hired three hitmen at 15 years old to shoot her parents in the family home, killing her 51-year-old mother.

Now 17-year-old Dahlia Bolin was charged with first-degree murder for hire after she and her three conspirators all pleaded guilty to charges of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and conspiracy. The pleas follow the case of the then 15-year-old who masterminded the murder-for-hire plan and promised the hitmen $100,000 of her parents' life insurance money, to carry out the plot.

Nathaniel Maloney, 20, and Andre Street, 19, were accused of shooting Bolin’s parents in the back of their heads while they sat on a sofa, while Sage Raeuber, 21, was identified as the getaway driver. Bolin was said to have appeared “happy and almost jolly” when her hitmen arrived at the family home in Mackinaw, Illinois in October 2021, where Street and Maloney would fatally shoot Bolin’s 51-year-old mother, Rebecca Bolin, and critically wound her father, Douglas Bolin, according to .

Mr Bolin later confirmed that he could identify the two firearms used in the attack against him were his guns. Street alleged that Bolin thanked his co-conspirators after they fled the Illinois home. Bolin was said to have had unspecified issues with her father at the time, and initially planned only to target him in her attack, but later decided to include her mother in her plot.

The specific reason that now 17-year-old Bolin was upset with her parents was never disclosed during proceedings in court according to WMBD-TV. Bolin prepared for the murder by disabling the wifi before Raeuber, Street, and Maloney arrived, so that events would not be recorded on security cameras, and Maloney and Street entered the home through the basement.

WMBD reported that the trio, Raeuber, Maloney, and Street, drove to the isolated Mackinaw house twice, including once in preparation for the murder the night before and once on the night in question in October 2021, according to prosecutors.

All four of the group involved in the murder-for-hire plot were arrested soon after the 51-year-old mother was fatally shot and the 52-year-old father was seriously wounded in their home. Bolin’s case was handled in adult court, and she will fulfill the first years of her 60-year sentencing in a juvenile detention center until she is 18 when she will be transferred to an adult facility.

Bolin, who was also charged with first-degree murder for hire, has been sentenced to 60 years in prison. She will be held in the juvenile detention system until she turns 18. The three hired men will spend their share of time in prison, Raeuber was sentenced to 30 years, Street to 55 years, and Maloney to 66 years for the murder of Bolin’s parents.
