Bosses were forced into another BBC Breakfast shake-up this morning with popular presenter Charlie Stayt 'missing' again.

The 61-year-old usually appears alongside Naga Munchetty, 47, on the red sofa but those waking were in for surprise as the anchor was replaced. He left things in the capable hands of journalist Ben Thompson as Charlie's absence wasn't addressed by either of the hosts as those watching at home were left guessing as he sat out the show again.

People were quick to notice that this is the third weekend the veteran presenter hadn't appeared. It left fans wondering where the long-server was spending his Saturdays as Naga and Ben - who often sits in when one of the stars is unavailable - talked viewers through the day's headlines.

At the beginning of the year, BBC Breakfast launched their brand new extended shows. Presenter Jon Kay, 54, revealed the news on Twitter late last year that things are changing - and viewers will be seeing a little bit more of their favourites. He took to social media to explain more.

He wrote: "It’s a big week for the #BBCBreakfast team. From now on, the programme will be 15 minutes longer Mon-Fri. "Then at 0930 our friends and neighbours @BBCMorningLive take over - and their show has been extended, too! The UK’s two biggest morning shows just got BIGGER!" Breakfast was previously live from 6:00am to 9:15am, and Morning Live airing for 45 minutes until 10:00am.

Charlie announced that he was 'going home' mid show on Thursday during a chat travel expert Simon Calder. He joined them via video link, braving the -6C London chill to deliver a report from St Pancras railway station Simon highlighted the huge difference in cost between buying rail tickets online and at a station machine. After his report, Charlie asked: "Where are you going now, Simon?" To which Simon replied: "I'm going to cycle home and have a cup of tea in a minute I'm flipping freezing!"

Charlie responded: "Well we appreciate you staying in the cold for us. Get on your bike, get a cup of tea what a good idea. Thank you, Simon." New research shows that passengers are paying more than necessary when using railway station machines. The Department for Transport (DfT) said it will "seek to support the industry to modernise ticket machines".

Earlier in December, Naga won over TV viewers when she took a turn at presenting satirical news programme Have I Got News For You. Naga presented alongside Maisie Adam and Richard Osman, with her appearance going down a treat with fans.

"Great hosting. Hope to see you in the chair again soon," said one fan as they flocked to X, formally Twitter. " Naga Munchetty needs to host Have I Got News For You every week," said another. While someone else said: "Naga's fun cheeky side is perfect for HIGNY BBC should utilise her fun side more."
