The four bodies tragically found in a house by police were family members, including two young girls, and had all suffered injuries before dying detectives confirmed this afternoon.

The bodies were tragically found at a house in Costessey, near Norwich this morning. Police had to break into the property after receiving a phone call from a member of the public. Inside they made the grim discovery of four bodies at the property in Allan Bedford Crescent just before 7am.

Later on this afternoon, police confirmed that all four bodies were "found with injuries" and would undergo a post-mortem examination. They also added that they had previously attended the property just last month for a missing persons enquiry.

A police cordon is in place as detectives from the Norfolk and Suffolk Major Investigation Team desperately try to figure out what happened. It's also been confirmed that a 45-year-old man, 36-year-old woman and two young girls were both found at the property. The man and two youngsters lived there and the woman was visiting, police said.

Detective Chief Inspector Chris Burgess, from the Norfolk and Suffolk Major Investigation Team, is leading the investigation. He said: “We can confirm all four were found with injuries and post-mortem examinations will be held in due course to establish cause of death. Officers are expected to remain at the scene for some time.

"We are still working to understand the full circumstances which led to the deaths of these people, however at this time we believe this to be an isolated incident. I recognise the shock and upset this incident will cause in the local community and we will have increased patrols in the area across the weekend. I would urge anyone with any concerns to speak to these officers.

"I’m aware there’s a lot of public interest in this investigation and speculation as to who is involved on social media, including the names of those who have died. The man and two children lived at the address, but the woman involved was visiting and didn’t live at the property. Next of kin have been informed and we are supporting them.

“We’re also aware of commentary on social media about a knife discovered in a wooded area near to the address, however, at this time we’re satisfied it’s not connected to this incident.”

Locals told of their shock at the incident on the Queen's Hills housing estate, which is located six miles north-west of Norwich city centre. A 32-year-old man who lives on an adjoining road said: "When I was dog walking this morning I saw the cordon at about 8am. This is a very quiet neighbourhood and I've never seen anything like this before here. This is something like you see on the TV I suppose, so it seems all quite surreal."

Gary Blundell, a local Lib Dem councillor, said there is no danger to the public. He added: "It's shocking - it just proves these sorts of things can happen anywhere. My heart goes out to anybody involved in this." The councillor, who lives on the estate, added: "I live on the estate with my wife. It hasn’t been verified who it is yet, so they haven’t released names, but if it is the family involved that I think it possibly could be, then yes we did know them.

“I don’t know if the house had been sold since the family I knew were there, but it was a family home. I don’t know if it was rented. Obviously, they approached me for help on certain things, when the house was being built. They did ask questions. I spoke to them. It’s just a regular normal family home. If they needed help, then it was available. To be honest, it’s a totally shocking experience. I don’t know how this has happened.

“We don’t know the full extent of what happened. We are only going on what we have been told, but from what I understand, this is an isolated incident, with no risk to the public. I don’t wasn’t to speculate, the family who lived there did [have kids]. I wouldn’t want to speculate if any children were involved – at the moment it’s just four bodies."
