A woman has told of her horror after a ‘Bridezilla' friend’s behaviour led to her dropping out of the wedding party altogether and never speaking to her again. She told how the wedding 'horror story' began when her friend asked her to be her maid of honour, before retracting the offer the next day because she didn’t seem ‘happy or enthusiastic’ enough when she was asked.

But this was only the first of many red flags, as when the bridal party were invited to try on the wedding dress, two hours away from home, the bride-to-be had another bridal breakdown, asking the woman and her friend to leave as there were too many people, meaning they also had to forgo the lunch planned afterwards, and drive two hours back. Cut to two more maid-of-honours being ‘sacked’ from their job, and she asked the friend if she would agree to taking on the role again. “I foolishly agreed,” she recalled.

But the drama was far from over. “The bachelorette party was planned as a long weekend away in an expensive airbnb in another state, and she demands we all pay her way; including all the activities/outings/restaurants she wanted to do over the span of three days,” said the friend, who admitted she was stressed about affording it, but managed to scrape some money together.

She continued: “The trip was horrible, and was a lot of Amy bossing us around or complaining about what we were doing wrong. Me and my friend finally had enough, and decided to speak with her about how we felt after the trip ended.” However, with the discussion turning into a frenzied fight, the woman was shocked to receive a phone call from the bride-to-be's mother later that night.

She said: “This woman is twice my age, and she starts going off about how me and Samantha are horrible people for ‘ruining’ Amy’s trip, and that if it happens again, we not welcome at the wedding. I text Amy and ask her what the hell is up with her mum calling me! I was really perturbed and uncomfortable by the interaction. No surprise but, Amy sides with her mother, telling me she’s right for saying all that.”

With the phone call the last wedding straw, she decided enough was enough and made the decision to drop out: “I told her that I had to drop out of the wedding and honestly the friendship too. How could I even continue showing up when her mother and her clearly feel this contempt for me. She tried to send me a nasty message the morning after, but I ignored it.”

After admitting she hadn’t spoken to her since, she also revealed that she had no regrets about her decision, and found out that the bride-to-be had had another two maid of honours since the fall out. Readers on Reddit went wild at the wedding story, with many believing she did the right thing dropping out altogether: “Probably for the best,” said one. “It sounds like it wouldn't be any better trying to stay in the bridal party. Especially if she's childish enough to have her Mum call you.”

Another said: “Sounds like mum is where the bride gets her sparkling personality,” while another wondered if anyone was actually left in the bridal party by the time the wedding came around: “The fact that multiple people have dropped out should be a massive hint to her. Doubt it will be. Maybe it’ll be one to the poor groom!”

Another commented: “If you always think everyone else around is the problem maybe, just maybe, it's you,” a comment backed up by another reader, who said: “When three different Maid of Honour’s drop out, you would think it would dawn on the bride that hey maybe I’m the problem? Apparently not. My prayers go out to the husband. Talk about a rough gig!”
