Jurgen Klopp admits concern at Mo Salah injury after talks with Liverpool star
Jurgen Klopp admitted he was shocked by Mo Salah’s injury but is in the dark about how serious the hamstring problem is.
The Liverpool manager is nervously awaiting news of the extent of the injury after Salah limped off before half-time of Egypt’s 2-2 with Ghana at the Africa Cup of Nations. The scenes were a worry for Egypt first as they battle to stay in the tournament.
But it will also be a concern for Liverpool to see their star man suffer an injury in sweltering conditions in Ivory Coast. Kop boss Klopp said: “We don’t know anything. I spoke with him last night. These injuries need further assessment. In the moment it was a shock. He felt it. We know how rarely Mo goes off so there is definitely something.”
Klopp said the club may send over their medical team to assess Salah if the diagnosis is bad. He said: “We will see. It depends on the diagnosis. They’ll do ultrasound and MRI and we will see.”
Liverpool travel to Bournemouth on Sunday hoping to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table. But the Reds will still be without Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andy Robertson and Dominik Szoboszlai set to miss the trip to the south coast.
Chelsea complete record-breaking Enzo Fernandez transfer after deadline day rushAlexander-Arnold suffered a knee injury during the FA Cup win over Arsenal earlier this month while Szoboszlai is battling a hamstring problem. Robertson has been out since October with a dislocated shoulder suffered while away with Scotland.
Klopp hasn’t ruled them out of next week’s Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Fulham. But he joked about Alexander-Arnold’s recent appearance at a fashion show. Klopp added: “He can walk… on the catwalk.
“Some of them might be part of team training next week but for Bournemouth don’t expect anyone back. Maybe for Fulham we will see how they do. Trent close, Dom close, Robbo close.”
