Netflix users threaten to cancel membership over 'one of the worst films ever'

Netflix has really thrown the cat among the pigeons by adding 'one of the worst films ever made' to its roster.

It may have been a cracking musical, but Andrew Lloyd Webber's Cats made for an unequivocally disastrous 2019 film adaptation. With an almost unheard of 2.8/10 on IMDb and a paw-ful 19 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes, the movie is widely regarded as being an absolute dud that's only fit for the litter tray.

The story centres around ballet dancer Francesca Hayward as protagonist Victoria the White Cat, supported by a star-studded cast including Judi Dench, Jason Derulo, James Corden, Idris Elba, Jennifer Hudson, Ian McKellen, Rebel Wilson and also a certain Taylor Swift.

But Cats, directed by Tom Hooper, floundered at the box office, grossing a feeble worldwide total of £61.2m against a production budget of around £74.8m. And the claws were out for it from the get-go, with critics unanimously agreeing it as being one of the worst things they had ever seen.

Rotten Tomatoes said: ""Despite its fur-midable cast, this Cats adaptation is a clawful mistake that will leave most viewers begging to be put out of their mew-sery". IMDb user themadmovieman said: "A disastrous show of pompous and inconsequential gibberish, garish visuals and tedious storytelling".

Speaking at the premiere of the film more than four years ago, James Corden told People he was hopeful audiences would love the film. "It's such a bold thing to try and do. It was a bold musical to make 30 years ago and it's fitting that it should be a bold film to make now," he said.

'Absolutely one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen'

@kittygang_4ever: "Genuinely worst film I have seen in probably a decade or more. And not in a funny ironic way where it’s still fun to watch and laugh at it. Just genuinely awful. A bore. Not even slightly interesting."

@JinsBottom: "We will be cancelling our subscription."
