Sir Rod Stewart has sparked alarm after being spotted out at the theatre with his hand all bandaged up.

The 79-year-old music icon was attending a performance of Cabaret at the Playhouse Theatre in London on Tuesday evening. The Waltzing Matilda singer turned heads as he showcased his renowned eccentric style, wearing a vibrantly coloured suit vest, a plain white shirt, a black and gold tie, and a burnt orange coloured jacket.

The music legend was also sporting a pair of black trousers and some animal print shoes - however, attention was drawn to his right hand as it was bandaged and plastered up. The white material of the bandages made a dramatic contrast to the rest of his colourful outfit, and suggested the star is battling some kind of injury.

Sir Rod has not addressed his injury, but appeared in high spirits as he left the theatre with a friend. While his latest injury looks like it won’t impact his mobility - unlike other recent injuries.

The star went under the knife in 2020 to have surgery on his knee after being injured when playing football. He was spotted using crutches after having a knee replaced - and also underwent ankle fusion surgery around the same time.

Discussing his personal upkeep, the star told The Sun at the time: “My knee got fixed with a knee replacement, so then the ankle didn't know what was going on because obviously it's crooked because of the knees, so now I've had to have the ankle done.”

He also kept fans updated on his health via social media, writing online: “After a knee replacement and angle fusion surgery, at 77 I'm back to top fitness in preparation for my long awaited tour dates - and maybe a call up Scotland!!! Full speed ahead bring on the tour!!”

Lately, Sir Rod has been promoting his whiskey brand - called Wolfie’s Whisky. He has been proud to supply the warming spirit at The Ritz in London - where it has been included as a key ingredient as the cocktail of the month for January.

Promoting the drink online a little over a week ago, Sir Rod highlighted the cocktail on his own Instagram page alongside a video. He wrote: “The Wolfies ‘Rhythm of my heart’ is The Ritz, cocktail of the month,” adding a hashtag for January and tagging the Ritz and his wife, Lady Penny Lancaster, 52.

The footage showed the couple sitting down to enjoy one of the cocktails - which was served in a tall glass. And the footage showed that Sir Rod’s hands were in full health as he sat with both his hands on top of the bar - with no injury to be seen.

Away from theatre and drinks promotions, Sir Rod has also been promoting his upcoming new album - titled Swing Fever, which is a collaboration with Jools Holland. The new record promises to include a range of covers of the 'timeless songs of the big band years' and is set to be unleashed on 23 February.
