The next big seasonal update for Diablo 4 will see players “unearth a looming threat” beneath the deserts of Sanctuary’s Kehjistan region.

Finally, it's happened! After weeks of speculation following the end of the festive period’s Midwinter Blight seasonal event and the upcoming finale of Diablo 4 Season 2, Activision Blizzard has revealed more details about what to expect from Diablo 4 Season 3. It’s officially called Season of the Construct, and will come packing a whole host of new endgame content including a new questline, a customisable companion, and an all-new type of dungeon.

As revealed in a tweet from the official @Diablo Twitter account and then explored further within an accompanying blog post on the Activision Blizzard news site, Season of the Construct will kick off in less than a week on Tuesday, January 23 at 6pm GMT / 1pm EST / 10am PST. This is in line with the Diablo 4 Season 3 release date confirmed in-game only a few days ago, after fan speculation was already running rampant.

Essentially, then, Season of the Construct will see the introduction of a new dungeon type known as Vaults, which will form part of the new questline that takes place beneath the desert region of Kehjistan. This you’ll do alongside a new robotic companion, which can be customised using two new addition items (Tuning and Governing Stones), to culminate in a boss fight with the demon Malphas. It’s his deadly constructs that are taking over Sanctuary, and only your efforts as part of Diablo 4 Season 3 can stop them.

Seasons greetings

I’ll be honest, while it’s nice to see Activision Blizzard finally lift the lid on what players can expect from the next three months in Diablo 4, the addition of yet another item type has me a little worried. The studio makes clear in its detailed blog post that “Tuning and Governing Stones can be acquired in a few different ways” so they should integrate into the gameplay loop fairly naturally. However, is anyone else having dreaded flashbacks of the infinitely confusing Malignant heart system from Diablo 4 Season 1?

Luckily, the developers have a chance to quell mine (and perhaps everyone else’s) fears about this in the form of the upcoming Diablo 4 Season 3 campfire chat livestream, set to air on Thursday, January 18. It’s here where all of Season of the Construct’s new gameplay mechanics and map changes will be fully delved into, as members of the Diablo 4 development team talk about what to expect as well as taking questions from the audience as per.

Diablo 4 Season of the Construct is the first of what should be four seasons for Diablo 4 this year, as one arrives every quarter. We won’t learn more about Diablo 4 Season 4, therefore, until at least the end of March/early April at the earliest. Until then, the only other piece of content we know is coming to Diablo 4 in 2024 is Vessel of Hatred, the live-service game’s first full paid-for expansion.
