Will Mellor has revealed he has had surgery on his eyes after his vision deteriorated - and was unable to have his sight helped by laser surgery.

The 47-year-old actor - who starred in the recent ITV hit show Mr Bates vs The Post Office - has said he noticed his sight deteriorating since he turned 40. Now he has been treated to have his sight improved - and he was thrilled with the results.

Taking to social media on Monday, Will admitted he was anxious about going into surgery as he attended the OCL Vision facility in London. He featured in a video where he posed wearing multiple layers - with a thick jumper and a winter gilet.

Addressing fans, Will announced: "Today is a big day for me. I’m about to go in for lens replacement surgery. I’ve had bad eyes for all my life but since I hit forty my eyes just deteriorated rapidly.

“Now I need glasses for more or less everything. I can’t have laser cause I have one short sighted and one long sighted eye and that would mean they could correct only one or the other so I’d still need glasses for reading or long distance."

He continued: "Whereas lens replacement if all goes well then I’ll never need glasses again. So how amazing is that. A bit nervous I cause it’s my eyes but I’m about to go for surgery so I’ll let you know how I get on."

Later, Will returned to Instagram to give a post-surgery debrief. He joked: "Well I’ve just come out of surgery looking very sexy as you can see. Unbelievable. I mean both eyes took about twenty minutes in total to do both eyes if that. Not much pain at all, a bit of pressure on the eye like a bit of a headache on the eye but that was it. Unbelievable. Dr Romesh is a genius. A bit blurry but I’ll keep you posted. I'll let you know."

And on Tuesday, he returned to Instagram again to give a further update on his condition - explaining he was surprised how quickly he was recovering. Posing in a pair of designer sunglasses, Will announced: “I just thought I’d give you an update on how my recovery is going, in case you are having lens replacement surgery.

“Yesterday, it felt like I had a bit of grit in my eyes, that’s the best way to describe it. Apparently that is normal. And my eyes were very light sensitive when I got outside, so I had to have sunglasses on. I had to be driven home, I can’t drive for a few days. But I could watch TV last night. I just had to have sunglasses on, because it’s the light. I have this flashing at the side of my eyes when I go into a bright room or even now if I turn my head. Hopefully that’s normal.”

He concluded: “Considering I had the operation yesterday, it’s amazing. I just wanted to keep you posted, just in case you’re thinking of having it done.” And he promised more updates to come.
