Comfort is key when it comes to airplane travel - but did you know the colour of your outfit could have a major impact on your flight experience?

Experts have revealed that wearing red could lead to preferential treatment from staff - and maybe even some additional perks on the plane. The information comes from , a travel advice blog, which has shared a new article breaking down the psychology.

According to writer Stephanie Lee, "airline staff may subconsciously perceive passengers in red as more important or of higher status, leading to enhanced customer service experiences. So, if you want to receive top-notch treatment during your travels, consider incorporating red into your airport attire."

Of course, you don't have to go all-out, if you don't want to. "Experiment with incorporating red accents or accessories into your airport outfit to take advantage of the psychological benefits this vibrant colour offers," Celia Paerels, a travel enthusiast, suggested to the Sun.

When it comes to colour psychology, it's been shown that red elicits the greatest feelings. While calmer hues like green and blue are typically considered serene and soothing, red is the hottest and most emotional colour. It is commonly associated with passion, love, power, confidence, and anger.

It is often utilised in business, too, with some of the most powerful and famous women intentionally wearing red to send a message of confidence. Similarly, the "power tie" worn by politicians is traditionally red; sports uniforms have red as the primary colour; and it is the famous 'red carpet' that is rolled out for the most esteemed celebrities and notables.

"This vivid and cheery colour is associated with our primal survival and signifies strength and resilience," according to Forbes. "Subconsciously red inspires and helps the wearer to take action and succeed."

But there is one event when wearing red is not acceptable - and that's to a wedding. In an episode of podcast, co-hosts and wedding planners Georgie Mitchell and Bethany Smith revealed why a red frock should be nowhere near the wedding reception.

To the amazement of Bethany, Georgie revealed that according to "an old wives' tale", wearing this particular colour "means you've slept with the groom".

Although she hadn't heard of this before, Bethany agreed that she associated red with being "quite sexy", and a bit "naughty". Both hosts agreed the colour has a certain "look at me" quality to it.

Georgie added: "I don't think I would rule out wearing red to a wedding, it would depend on the dress."
