Emmys red carpet host Laverne Cox mispronounces Hannah Waddingham's name

Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham wasn't laughing when E! Emmys Red Carpet host Laverne Cox mispronounced her name.

Despite starring on a sitcom, Hannah was less than thrilled when Laverne introduced her as "Hannah Waddington." Hannah reminded Orange is the New Black star that it was "ham" as in "Waddingham" - not "ton". The 49-year-old actress also chastised the the host, telling her to, "get it right".

Laverne took it in stride, telling Hannah that she would remember that for the future. They then carried on with their red carpet interview as planned. Before parting ways, the 51-year-old host made a point to put emphasise that the actress' name was "Waddingham, not ton," to which Hannah reminded her how important it is to "get it right" once again.

Fans were quick to notice the mishap and took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to call out the uncomfortable moment.

"Very uncomfortable watching Laverne Cox butcher Hannah Waddingham's name. First it was 'Waddington' and then it was 'Wattingham.' Adding insult to injury it doesn't seem she knows this was Ted Lasso's last season," one fan wrote.

Another also took aim at Lavernes interviewing skills, writing, "Love Laverne Cox but she messed up Hannah Waddingham’s name and keeps asking the same question: “tell me the story of this outfit.” She also goes on rants and doesn’t really have a question. Ask them questions! Interview them! Come on!"

In spite of the hiccup, both stars looked stunning on the red carpet for the 75th Annual Primtetime Emmy Awards.

Hannah stunned in a beaded gown with a deep v neckline that hugged her hips in a mermaid fit. The bottom of the gown was filled out with feathers that unfurled into a train.

Laverne, meanwhile, stunned in a low-cut, black leather dress with a tight corset top.

All of this excitement happened before the big show even began. Once the stars file in to the Peacock Theater in LA, Anthony Anderson will kick off the evening as the show's host.

The frontrunners for this year's Emmy Awards include Succession in the drama category, Ted Lasso for comedy and Beef for limited series. However, anything can happen.
