Saturday's Lotto jackpot has gone unclaimed - meaning there will be an even bigger chance of winning a life-changing sum of money in another rollover next week.

The National Lottery draw saw Brit ticketholders play in the hope of winning an estimated £7.5million. But after no one scooped the top prize, the jackpot will increase to £9.1m when the draw returns on Wednesday, January 17.

The draw took place at 7.45pm and will also followed by this week's final £500,000 Thunderball draw, which takes place a short while after at approximately 8.15pm.

National Lottery winner scooped £2m – but still ended up sleeping on lilo on pub floor

A National Lottery splurged his £2million win and ended up in court in a row over £400, sleeping on the floor of his own pub.

When Mike Antonucci scooped the jackpot in 1995, he believed he was set for life and quit his job as an antiques dealer. He went on an international spending spree during which he purchased luxury cars and yachts, and splashed out on a pub, nightclub and massage parlour.

Lottery horror stories

Lottery hopefuls will be eagerly checking their tickets tonight. But for every delighted winner, there's a million others who miss out - and some truly have the worst luck.

Rachel Kennedy, 19, and Liam McCrohan, 21, were left “absolutely heartbroken” in March after claiming they'd missed out on a £182million EuroMillions jackpot.

The couple, from Hertfordshire, realised their usual numbers of 6, 12, 22, 29, 33, 6 and 11 had come up but there was one major catch - their ticket payment hadn't gone through.

They had played the same numbers for five weeks in a row, before all seven digits appeared in the draw.

Rachel explained how she had set up her account to automatically buy a EuroMillions ticket for each draw - but when payment for the winning ticket was attempted, the lottery account did not have enough funds.

When do winners get their money?

The winnings are transferred electronically within 48 hours but officials recommend it doesn't go into a normal high street savings account.

Instead they suggest winners open a a private account (most of the big banks have teams which deal only with Lottery winners and the very wealthy ) which is shielded from the knowledge of ordinary branch staff.

That way no one can leak news of a person's win.

Lotto curse - Brits whose lives were destroyed when they became millionaires

Many of us dream of winning the lottery - but history shows that it isn't always the golden ticket we think it is.

While scooping a huge jackpot would definitely take some of life's problems away, it would also potentially create new ones.

For some winners who walked away millionaires after their ticket came up trumps, life really did improve - and they would never wish they could return to their old life. But for others, their huge fortunes ended up becoming a burden, leading to poverty, huge bust-ups and even death.

The tragedy follows a clear pattern - the joy of winning is replaced by despair, as they either blow through a fortune, or their personal lives become unbelievably stressful.

Not your night? Here's what's next

If your numbers haven't come up, there's not long to wait until the next draw.

On Monday, it's Set For Life - and you can win big.

Lucky winners will have £10,000 deposited in their bank account every single month for the next 30 years. Runners-up, who match the five main numbers, will meanwhile land themselves a very comfy £10,000 a month for a year.
