Amanda Abbington furious after being denied a spot on Strictly’s live UK tour
Amanda Abbington was “fuming” after Strictly bosses ruled her out of the show’s live tour, despite her lobbying for a slot from day one.
Sources say the Sherlock actress – who quit the BBC series in October – made it known she was keen to go on tour with the cast.
And she was furious when she missed out on the chance to dance alongside Corrie’s Ellie Leach and West End star Layton Williams. A source said: “Amanda made it clear she was desperate to have a slot. It was a real blow for her and she was fuming. She felt snubbed.”
Amanda, 51, allegedly clashed with her pro partner Giovanni Pernice in last year’s rehearsals. At the time, she dismissed claims they had rowed as “b*******”. But she later quit the BBC show due to “medical reasons”. Amanda was absent from the series finale, which saw the rest of the cast reunite for a last routine.
And earlier this month, it emerged she had requested footage of her rehearsals with Giovanni, 33, after seeking legal advice. A source close to the actress claimed she had suffered post-traumatic stress disorder after Strictly.
Corrie's Sue Cleaver says I'm A Celebrity stint helped her to push boundariesShow bosses have backed dance pro Giovanni in the row. BBC sources also claim Amanda gave a different reason for leaving the dance contest.
"The feeling is he is a tough taskmaster, but hasn't bullied or abused anyone. The BBC see him as a key face of Strictly and will do all they can to support him," a source told the Mirror earlier this week.
Giovanni addressed the scandal for the first time online on Wednesday night, as he launched a new business venture and thanked fans for their support, while Amanda has been inactive on Instagram since reports regarding her allegations emerged.
