The hidden gem countryside village that's home to 'Britain's prettiest pub'
A local boozer based deep in the English countryside has been named as the "prettiest pub" in the UK.
According to research by house rental company Big House Experience, Lord Crewe Arms was featured on the top ten list. To understand which pubs were the nation's prettiest, experts looked at Instagram hashtag data for more than 200 country establishments that were named as "beautiful" in trusted publications over the past two years, as reported by Time Out.
The website description of On the Lord Crewe Arms states: "Nestled in the honey-stone village of Blanchland, beneath a cloak of forests and heath, stands our storybook bolthole, Lord Crewe Arms. Offering the warmth of twenty-six bedrooms, each decorated in soothing North Pennine hues, we're ideally positioned for a relaxing northeast getaway.
“Soaked in Northumberland soul – this is hillside living with heart, and we’re pretty sure you’ll love us for it.” Dog lovers are in for a treat, as the pub permits canine companions, if they wish to stay the night having enjoyed a wholesome meal and drink or two before enjoying the stunning surroundings.
Lord Crewe Arms offer “pawsome retreats” - an overnight stay that includes a dog welcome letter, cosy bed, bowl, towel and treats (extra charges apply to more than one dog). Visitors who purchase this package can enjoy a welcome drink in The Crypt Bar for human and four-legged friends alike, and the pooches can even have a Woof beer or Woofin treat.

On Tripadvisor, the pub has a current rating of 4.5/5 out of 863 reviews. One recent customer said: “We stopped into the Lord Crewe Arms while passing through on a long-distance charity cycle ride.
“The pub was so warm and welcoming and a gorgeous place to stop for lunch. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We had a light lunch but found the food to be top-notch and really enjoyable. We could have stayed there all afternoon. In fact, we nearly did.
“There was not a massive selection of places to stop, but I am so pleased that we found this little gem and I can't wait to re-visit when I have a bit more time and don't need to get back on a bike!!”
