Michelle Keegan shares 'the main key' to her decade-long relationship with Mark

Michelle Keegan has opened up about her marriage to Mark Wright and shared that they are "best friends" and have "freedom" in their respective careers.

The 36-year-old actor - who stars in Netflix's Fool Me Once - has been in a relationship with Mark, also 36, for more than a decade. The couple will be celebrating their ninth wedding anniversary later this year, having tied the knot back in 2015. She was asked about their relationship by Fearne Cotton, 42, whilst a guest on the latest episode of the Happy Place podcast. After confirming their next anniversary, Michelle told the podcast host that the years have "gone so fast".

Asked what makes her compatible with Mark - who has become a presenter since appearing on the Only Way is Essex - Michelle said: "I think just being best friends. I think just being friends and having that relationship."

She further commented: "I think we're really lucky where if I go up north, he comes with me if he can, and same with down south. So we're based down south but if we travel, we go with each other and I think that really works for us."

Fearne subsequently asked about the couple having been in different continents at times. This included when Michelle - who rose to fame on ITV soap opera Coronation Street - filmed BBC show Ten Pound Poms in Australia in 2022.

The host asked: "You've had periods where you have been in totally different continents. How have you made it work long distance? There are plenty of people [who have long distance relationships]. What keeps you on the right track?"

Michelle responded: "That's the thing - we're not the first to it. And it is a job thing." Discussing the project in Australia, she continued on the podcast: "I had like two months alone but then he'd come out and stay with me for six weeks."

She went on to discuss having "freedom" with their careers. Michelle shared: "And it's just having and finding that time for each other. I think that's the main key, but also letting us have our freedom to do what we wanna do career-wise."
