Coronation Street's Claire Sweeney responds after Lorraine name blunder

Coronation Street's Claire Sweeney has hilariously responded after an awkward Lorraine name blunder on Thursday.

The actress, 52, who plays Cassandra "Cassie" Plummer on the ITV soap, will be swapping the cobbles for the ice rink as she's one of the stars taking part in Dancing On Ice this January. On Thursday's Lorraine, the ITV chat show had a special Dancing On Ice segment in which they chatted to the 2024 lineup. However, when talking to Claire, the banner on-screen mistook the star for Steps singer Claire Richards. It read: "Claire Sweeney, Steps singer."

The blunder didn't go unnoticed by fans with Instagram account HUNSNET quickly posting the error, writing: "You gorra know your Sweeneys from your Richards babe… Side note, can’t wait to see @claire.sweeney bringing the razzle dazzle to @dancingonice."

Claire was quick to reply as she saw the funny side, writing: "Easy mistake it’s happened before... And I am a massive Steps fan 5678", adding: "I’m so flattered to be in Steps [heart emoji] and thank you for the support xxx." It comes as Claire and Alan Halsall, who plays Tyrone Dobbs, have teased Fiz Dobbs' return as actress Jennie McAlpine was pictured on the cobbles on Thursday.

Taking to Instagram, both Claire, who plays Cassie, and Alan, who plays Tyrone, shared a lovely family snap, where Fiz star Jennie was pictured. Claire wrote: "So good to meet my daughter-in-law today @alanhalsall lovely Jennie McAlpine [heart emoji] Fiz."

Meanwhile, Alan, 41, wrote: "Family is the heart of the home [heart emoji] No.9 @coronationstreet, Jen's back." He added: "So happy to be together again & back to work." Coronation Street's official Instagram replied to the snap, writing: "Love this! Welcome back Jen," with a heart emoji.

Soap fans will recall that Fiz left for Norwich last year and hasn't been seen on screen since May. In real life, actress Jennie, 39, went on maternity leave and welcomed her third child with husband Chris Farr in April 2023, an adorable baby daughter called Doris.

It comes as Coronation Street spoilers for next week have teased Tyrone's temporary exit storyline from the hit ITV soap. In upcoming scenes, Tyrone tells Evelyn that his wife Fiz is attending a course in Italy and has invited him to go with her, but he wouldn’t dare to leave the girls with Cassie for a fortnight.

Later in the week, Cassie applies extensions to Ruby’s nails and gives her crisps for breakfast. Having taken a call from the school, Evelyn tears a strip off Cassie and tells her she’s nothing but a hindrance when it comes to the girls. Does this mean that Tyrone does join Fiz in Italy?

It was revealed last year that Alan, who plays Tyrone, would be taking a break from Corrie after having a major knee operation. The actor, who was also forced to pull out of I'm a Celebrity, revealed back in November that he had reconstructive surgery on his ACL ligament, which had gone "really well".

Posting a picture of his strapped-up limb on Instagram at the time, he wrote: "On Friday I underwent ACL reconstruction surgery. I have been told the surgery went really well. I know I have a long 9-12 months of rehabilitation ahead of me but I’m sure with the support of family and friends I’ll get there."

At the time, a Coronation Street spokeswoman said Tyrone would remain on screen for the rest of the 2023 year but will then disappear for a bit. She explained: "Alan will be on screen in the coming weeks as we film two months ahead, and then he'll be taking a short break whilst he recovers."

With Alan's character Tyrone appearing to head to Italy next week, it's likely this is the character's temporary exit storyline from the hit ITV soap. And with Jennie pictured back on set, does this mean the storyline ties into Fiz's return?
